Looking to buy an anal toy and need help to decide whether a dildo or a prostate massager is the best way to go?

A typical prostate massages will be narrow, not much larger than a finger. If your goal is eventful penetration you will need to size up sooner than later.
Colt (and others) make an anal trainer kit that is basically three tapered butt plugs, the largest of which has a pretty big girth but is useful. The negative to these is that they are relatively short so you will not get the sense of fullness that comes with length plus girth. For that a dildo is your answer.
I would suggest the butt plug trainer kit. Once inserted you can leave them in and go about your business, allowing you to get used to the sensation.
Once you can comfortably take the biggest plug then get a dildo but be reasonable when selecting a size.

Personally, I would suggest you go with a small dildo like the one below. It's small so good place to start. Once you get use to the sensation of having something in your butt, a prostate massager will be easier to handle and more enjoyable. You can get a small dildo for about $14 @ PinkCherry. I would suggest to go with a small dildo.
Those trainer packages are great for beginners to get confident with the feeling of something up your ass.
Then you can also grow in length and girth if you still find them too small.
A prostate massager does massage the prostate and that’s it. It gives incredibile orgasms, but it’s usually thin and doesn’t give the sensation of fullness like a dildo.

Another option (because what you've been told hasn't possibly confused you enough LOL) is to get an AssLock.

An AssLock looks something like this:
AssLock.jpg

The ring goes around your dick as most cockrings do but the plug, tetherred to the ring, goes into your butt. Then when you're jacking off, the movement on your cock tugs on the tether and makes the plug wiggle around inside your hole, possibly rhythmically bonking your prostate at the same time.

These are found most anywhere that sells sex toys. Try to find one that is made of a material that can handle not just water based lube (everything can) but also silicone- and oil/grease-based lubes. Silicone based lube wrecks silicone toys.

The size and shape of the plug part is nearly limitless, so you can go pretty much as thick, long, nubby, smooth or textured as you care to. You may want to measure the distance between your hole and the spot right behind you balls to make sure the one you're looking at isn't overly long or short. These things are't returnable if they don't fit!

They're also good to just have installed as you walk about in your daily life. They're quite fun and stimulate your hole as you're walking around or sitting at the office desk.
Or so I've been told... :p
Consider having a small bottle of lube at hand should things dry out mid-day and you'll be golden.

Good advice. Start with a trainer kit, start small then gradually to larger and then dry a dildo.

one is for your prostate which has no real impact on your sphincter learning to open backwards, and the other is for opening your sphincter. However, fingers are the best route to start, because you should know what your butt feels like, what touch does what, and how it stretches, unless you got a buddy to do it in which care, hell yeah.

I just bought a vibrating prostate massager with attached cockring as my first foray into anal play. I like the idea of wearing it around under my clothes all day.
If I like it I’m keen to upgrade to one with a remote for secret pleasure.
