Over the last few days I've been doing some deep housecleaning and whatever porn I don't want I've been selling. Today I was going through those 4 hour compilation DVD's to see if I wanted to keep any of them and wondered why a lot of the older ('80's, early '90's) porn stars never wanted to write a book about themselves.

I've read Jon Vincent, Jack Wrangler and Traci Lords' books (I was able to find the Al Parker, Casey Donovan and John Holmes books but haven't read them) and after reading them was fascinated with their lives. Not just for the story they told but how their lives had changed.

Anyway, if ever any other porn stars were to write a book, whose life story would you want to read?

I'd nominate: Michael Christopher, Randy White, J.D. Slater (I did have the chance to interview him and he was fascinating) and Harry Reems. If the person has passed away I think a biography of them could also be of interest. I think there was a book about Richard Locke as well.

The book could be about anyone- gay, straight, man or woman.

There was a book about Richard Locke? Like to find that one. The book I'd wish for was a comprehensive biography of Joe Gage, the director of late 70's to early 80's classics like
"El Paso Wrecking Corp" and "Heatstroke" that made a big impression on me when I first got to see gay porn.

Meatsmeat- I just looked at the Barnes and Noble site (out of print section) and he did write a book. I don't know if it's an autobiography but the name of it is Locke Out- The Collective Writings of Richard Locke published by Firsthand LTD. There are a couple of copies less than $10 (which is really good). I'm thinking that this was the book I saw in a book magazine I occasionally get then it disappeared. I also think it was listed in the biography/autobiography section of the paper. There's really no description of the book, but there is a drawing of him on the cover.

Willow78- I looked for the one you mentioned and it's also at Barnes and Noble (used for $1.99 but I'm not sure about s/h).

Mr Marcus has a book "The Porn Star's Guide To Great Sex". I don't think it's technically an autobiography, but judging from the chapter previews I've read, he shares a lot of personal stories and experiences.

Dale Dabone (straight porn star) is currently writing a book on his life. Jenna Jameson has one already, and Traci Lords, even though she's an ex-porn star, has a really interesting autobio.

I'd like to read Ryan Idol's life story.

John Holmes written by someone who was actually there and had no agenda, just told the facts. That saw his fall into addiction and the extent of his involvement for the Wonderland Murders, ie. who were the co-conspritors, did he actually kill someone, how far gone was he by that point, etc.

A bit off-topic, but in 1996 Charles Isherwood wrote a book about porn bottom Joey Stefano {Wonder Bread & Ecstasy:The Life & Death of Joey Stefano}. Even after reading it all those years ago, that book still haunts me. Joey Stefano overdosed at the age of 26 in a sleazy hotel in West Hollywood, Ca. His story would make a disturbing movie.

Jon Vincent's book still haunts me. It's my understanding that he basically told his story into a tape recorder and it was written word for word. The critics hated it but when I was reading it I couldn't put it down it was that raw of a book. After I did a review of it I said that it should be mandatory for people going through (drug) recovery. It was really sad to read about someone spiraling out of control and you could tell when he was high and when he wasn't since it was all over the place.

I've often thought his book would make a good movie as well.

On the other side of the spectrum, Jack Wrangler's book was completely different. He was in control of his life and if you've seen "Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon" he talks about everything that's in the book, so I guess you could say that the book was turned into a movie. (Which btw his wife Margaret Whiting died this year in January).

Oh, Ginger Lynn has been talking about doing a book for years and years now, I think it would be a fun and trashy read! It was to be called "I Did It, I Liked It, So What?" or something along those lines. But I'm pretty sure she's still doing it, not sure if she's liking it that much anymore!

Heron- There's a pretty good book called "You'll Never Make Love in this Town Again" and was written by three prostitutes and names names. When I was looking up the title I saw there was a sequel so I might have to check that one out.

WNY-Ginger Lynn's book would be called "Winning!" since she date Charlie Sheen for awhile. Actually, in the "straight films" she was a pretty good actress.

Shurewood- Drew Andrews yes! I think that's why I came up with topic. Possibly Michael Brandon as well would be interesting as well.
