...For me, Kissing The Pink 'The Last Film.'....God I miss the 80's!!!
I Melt With You - Modern Engliah
A serious case could be made for Madonna's Material Girl.
makes the most sense, damn yupies!
I'm going to be that annoying person who says I was born in the 80s so I didn't really live much of it, however whenever I hear "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell, it always makes me instantly think of the stereotypical 80s stuff.
I said in another thread the 80's were my least favorite decade because of personal issues and events, but I did like the music a great deal. I think if I had to pick one song it would be...
Total Eclipse Of The Heart
"Girls Just Want to Have Fun" was the first song that popped into my mind after reading the thread title.
In my opinion the 80's were a dark time socially. The fear of a nuclear war and then Aids, gave us all a stark reminder of how truly precious life is. One song defined how i felt in the 80's. Wishing i could stop people from dying and end the fear of war. Perhaps a deal with God? Jason Els told me once this was his favorite song from the 80's. I agree. It's a powerful song. So this is dedicated to Jason.
Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill ( A Deal with God)
One could have this outlook about most decades:
30's - Great Depression
40's - World War II
50's - Cold War and real fear of nuclear war with people building bomb shelters
60's - Vietnam and Civil Rights
70's - Bad Economy, Gas Shortages, Nixon, Ford, Carter and Disco...
drive - the cars
Good point... Come on they were a great time musically, the sheer number of new wave, new romantic bands making memorable hits without being bank-rolled by the big companies and doing their own stuff.Lets NOT include 'power ballards' tho'!!!!
Even though it was released earlier, the song that for me epitomizes the 80's and a whole lot of what's happened since is this.
Nods to Bbucko and surferboy.
I think it's "Blue Monday" from New Order.
That sample has been used in so many other songs, it's that simple, it's that good!
Or it could be
"You spin me right round" from dead or Alive (the meatspin song)
Very 80's pop!
Madonna "Get Into The Groove"
This is the song I was going to choose, haha. Especially since they rereleased the song twice in the 00's. The 80's just won't die.
Huey Lewis had a way of personifying it in one song, dontcha think?
i've got another one one of my faves of all time Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
Careless Whisper - George Michael
