Perhaps you missed the point of this Fijian coup. When the British left the land belonged to the natives. Their right to the land was embedded in their constitution. It became apparent that east Indians would have a majority in parliament allowing them to change the constitution to permit the land to be sold to non natives. General Rabooka and his son led the protest. Now you know the rest of the story.,.
NO! I did not miss the point.
The point is that the iTaukei were misled into thinking that their ownership of the land was at risk. It would have taken more than a simple majority in parliament to change the constitution.
