There is really a "writer," per se, but an editor. Read closely and you'll see that the person who edited all the information and put it into a useful, readable format is boboroshi of the CoE. Cool guy, that. And I'm glad that he did so, because I found the whole thing very interesting and informative. Actually, reading it convinced me not to try and kill myself once.

There are so many race related posts because in the United States we live in a racist society. Whether it is blatant or subtle, racism sadly rears its ugly head on a daily basis. For people of color, like myself, it is something we have to deal with constantly. I'm sure there are many people that will disagree, but before you start getting angry think about the history of this nation. Think about the treatment of Native Americans (genocide), African Americans (slavery, segregation), Latinos (slave like working conditions, illegal deportation of U.S. citizens, segregation) Asians (japanese internment camps) etc. With this history is it a suprise that race is still an issue in America. For some people, like myself, we cannot avoid it. I would rather be treated like any other person, and my race not be a factor but it is not always my choice. As evident by the posts, people cannot get past color. They believe stereotypes, and believe the images portrayed in the media. Sorry for the long post, I don't want to hyjack the thread. I'll get off my soapbox now. :smile:

here's my thought on why racism will never end: first and formost, vocabulary. if blacks keep referring to blacks with racial epithats and denying other races that right its a problem. whites do it too, and so do latinos. by denying another group access to something you promote fear of a word, fear of a word promotes fear of a thing. ask almost any white person, they are very reserved about saying the N word. to claim something regardless of race as "your word" is to promote a segragationist attitude.

secondly: Political Correctness. PC is just a sorry attempt to say "hey we're sorry for what happend to you minorities" by trying to make up for lost time you create resentment. ask any white kid who got beat out at a university because there were too many white kids accepted. Mich State admits to race being a contributing factor to admitance. if your latino or african and they dont have a lot of you accepted, you'll get in.

As a person in a minority group, I do not feel that you, being a white male owe me anything. I agree with the James Brown song that says "I don't want nobody to give me nothin, open up the door, I'll get it myself" I understand perfectly that many things happened before you were born and that you are not personally responsible. I don't really agree that it is like a fight where nobody wants to cut their losses. I don't think that minorities were ever winning, we have been losing. The progress from the civil rights movement until today if anything has only tried to create equality between races. Today is much better than 40 years ago, yet we still have a way to go. With each generation more progress is made. The fact that you don't care what race someone is proves that. You can sit down and eat with a person of color (in most places), and it is OK. There are still inequalites between races, and sex. Women in the workplace still do not recieve equal pay as their male counterparts. I wish I could leave the race card at home, but I can't take off my skin. It comes with me wherever I go. It is up to the other person to accept it, because I am comfortable with who I am. I do agree that classism has grown in America, and that minorities are sometimes more accepted due to money. Yet, racism is not only a middle or lower class affair. I went to a university where the majority of students were affluent whites. Race was an issue there. I have been at elite formal business functions, and race was an issue there as well. If it wasn't why was I mistaken for a waiter at every almost every one of these functions. It was because I was a Latino in a tuxedo, stereotypical waiter. Now I know that not all rich whites are racist, but I cannot deny what has happened. I'm sure some of them who say they are not racist would mind if I or a black man were dating their daughter. I don't dwell in the past nor do I let this affect my attitude or how I live my life. Yet this does not mean I should not know history. There is a saying that those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. We should learn from the past mistakes and move on from them, but we should not ignore them either. I think that color does not matter in people. There are both good and bad people of every race. But you see, sometimes I don't have the choice to say it doesn't matter because it is not always up to me. Because of my color, I am percieved to be a certain way without even doing anything. I think everyone of color wished that their color didn't matter in society, but the sad fact is that it does, and we are not the ones who made it matter in the first place. Had a big race topic over dinner last night with the sharehouse, and I just tend to get a little too upset over these things. I rarely show it, never shout or bang my fists and get angry, I just get really sad inside when I see how some people view others of a different race. Having travelled around the world, and being brought up (till the age of 7) in Papua New Guinea, I didn't know what racism was until I moved to Australia. Although everyone has their prejudices, I try my hardest to never see a difference in someone based on skin colour, and for me it works. It doesn't matter whether they're white or black or asian etc, because they're still a person. Australian aboriginals apparently have a drinking problem, as my housemate brought up yesterday. He said that he avoids black people in the park because he knows that they're going to hassle him for money. I asked him whether it was black people that intimidated him, or drunken slobs in the park? Because I'd be intimidated by anybody who was smashed out of their mind yelling at me for change - regardless of race. Why is it that we need to attach the race when making these comments? Why do people say 'black person in the park' instead of 'drunk person person in the park' why does race make a difference? I was verbally assaulted by a fat old balding slob on a park bench the other day with a cask of wine at his side, calling me a slut because I wouldn't give him a dollar to use 'the phone'. When I tell people about this incident, do I make reference to his race? I don't, because I really don't think it matters. I have seen the best and worst of all races, and quite frankly they all operate on the same level - as humans and people, not as blacks or whites. Although all of this may seem to have no direct relevance to large or small penii across different races - I think I can draw a parallel with this.

People have large, small, medium, huge, tiny, bent, crooked, cut, uncut, fabulous, horrid, cute and ugly penii. People own them, not races.

I think this is the last 'race' thread I'm going to be commenting in, I think they're too insulting.
