Not so my beautiful friend. I worked for a major telecommunications firm and they did an employee satisfaction survey in the late 80s/early 90s. When they did it, they truncated two of the responses. So what should have appeared as "Not enough blacks in management" and "Not enough women in management" was truncated to "Not enough blacks/women in management" when the report was released. One of the top accounting people in our division was a black woman. So did they promote her to the head of Accounting? No, they promoted her to Director of IT. The poor lady was not qualified for it and the management promoted her to the post anyway. When problems started arising, she was trying her best to figure it out, but she was not a tech minded person, she was a numbers person. She ended up resigning due to the stress and the disciplinary boards she was forced to face due to her performance.

So yes NJ, I saw first hand someone lose their job, not directly as an AA situation, but she lost it for being black, promotable, and promoted to the wrong position. So I am pretty sure that other companies used a similar blueprint to "get rid of" people like that. I just can't prove it yet. :biggrin1:

This is similar to what Thomas Sowell writes about when he describes how blacks get recruited to top schools they do not qualify for. This lady, does get her old accounting job, she gets fired. The students do not drop out and then get a scholarship at less university, they just quit.

Not to mention it denigrates every black, minority or women than earns the job or scholarship.

Not a good childhood, I have to admit. I think the diffenerece in our upbrinings is that my parents were honest and hard working are your mother and or father, stole from land lords and gas company, water company, etc and lived off the public dole. I cannot say we share the same background.

i'm flabbergasted. i mean...

Does anyone else see this...He basically said this man's mother/father were thieves and parasites.

I'm so enraged i can't even formulate a rebuttal without insulting you in every way possible. I'll stand down before i get banned.

Are we the only two who understood that from his post? I didn't say anything, because I thought I must have misunderstood.

Just because AA has resulted in the promotion of people to positions that they were (perhaps) not prepared for is not basis enough for wholesale condemnation of it.

For every non-qualified minority who benefitted in this way from AA, I'm sure there must be at least ONE non-minority who stepped into some high paying, cushy, job of authority without the proper credentials or aptitude for the position (starting with the highest office of this land, for example) solely because of who he knew, who he was related to, or any host of other reasons having ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with f**kin qualifications.

How quickly we forget about all of that (or maybe for SOME reason we're not as bothered by it) - while we're citing every black person we ever knew who we thought shouldn't have gotten the job. What hypocrisy!

How quickly we forget about the tens of thousands who gained employment who otherwise would NOT have due to discrimination based on their race, age, sex, or handicap; people who were given the opportunity, are doing admirably well, and who are making their contribution to the workforce.

Wow. Yeah, you two are not the only one's who read that as it was. Mainly because that's exactly what he said.

My single mother did not steal from anybody. I said we lived WITHOUT water, lights, and gas when we had to because we didn't have the money to pay. My mother was VERY hard working. She did all she could, bless her heart, but sometimes it just wasn't "enough" to cover everything. It was a decision between having food on the table and hot water...and I think food typically outweighs gas.

I am appalled at your statements and I, like others, cannot form a coherent rebuttal to your commentary on how "my mother did not work hard enough and therefore we did not have." You don't know my circumstances or hers and yet you judge. Maybe, I could just say that my life was much rougher than your own. Judge not lest ye be judged and I pray that you never have to go through anything that I had to in the 22 years of my life.
Nice picture (cartoon), I think in the case of AA, what mexincan's back did I step on or did my forefathers. And who are you calling white?
Mexican? Are you serious?

And I do not know your race...clearly I was not singling you out and therefore I put a divider between my comments and the picture.

As did I. I figured my dyslexia had kicked into overdrive or something.

Does anyone else see this...He basically said this man's mother/father were thieves and parasites. ... and people used to say I made broad sweeping generalizations.:redface::tongue:

I read that too! But I'm dyslexic and thought perhaps I had mixed the words up somehow so that it sounded like an attack.

Darling, if you ever get back up this way again, call me. I'm not jewish, but I make some KILLER bagels! Will do!

I'm sorry if I offended you with my earlier comments. I should probably offer up some more detailed explanation in PM. I truly am fond of you; please don't be angry at me!
I'm not angry at you babe. Sometimes we disagree, it's cool. I still love you!
