Unfortunately, I can't say I didn't see this coming. No album for 4 years, no tour for 4 years... the writing was on the wall. Still, I can't remember the last time I was this disappointed to hear of a band breaking up.

Had they really not toured for four years? Wow.
In a way, I think this is a good breakup.
As the LA Times reported:
"The band's post goes on to explain that there are no artistic differences or health issues, rather that they are making this move 'to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.'"
Kinda classy, I'd say.

Classy, I agree. And there is something to be said for wanting to avoid keeping on for the sake of keeping on.

Still, I'll miss the Stripes. If the Dead Weather is what Jack White truly wants to focus his energies on... then hopefully they'll be able to put out a consistently good album, now.
