Hmmm... different bodies different reactions... on my end beer (beyond transfofming me into a human urine fountain) is dangerous and so I avoid it, champagne believe it or not makes me aggressive, wine regardless of color, vodka and tequila :) good times :) good good times. :) Oh! And in my opinion Tequila is nectar descended from the heavens!!

Am I the only one who's confused by the simple red/white distinction. One white is not the same as another. At the extremes you might notice a difference between Lambrini and a vintage Montrachet. Surely reactions aren't only dependent on colour...

I should extrapolate on the beer being dangerous... beer turns me into a sexually famished creature... lol! Kinda like white wine seems to do to your lady.

We have a good one here in Montreal. Many excellent microbreweries. If you like on lees you'd enjoy yourself at this beer fest. Sadly it's been moved to the Old Port from the island.

I have noticed that mixing my drinks tends to exacerbate the effects. I seem to get more drunk and hungover for longer if I start the night on, say, gin and then switch to vodka later on, than if I stick to the same drink all night. I don't know why.

A while back I read about research done on the effects of alcohol and their colour.

aparrently, the darker toned alcohol like vodka is harder to absorb and increases the chance of a hangover. The clearer the colour of the alcohol the less of a hangover you get.

I suppose because of the tequilla ritual of taking a full glass shot and then masking the ugly aftertaste with lemon.

anyone want to comment on why tequilla works so well?

Tequila is made from Agave which is a plant in the succulent family. Now agave itself has a psychotropic effect on the body (due to its naturally occurring alkaloids), now add alcohol to the mix and you have yourself a two for one. Great way to get a bang for your buck! ;)

Unless the Tequila is of excellent quality which I will then definitely enjoy sipping, I prefer consuming it in a Margarita form. Shots are good for partying (dancing) as long as you stick to Tequila and don't mix.

I find my hangovers are much worse if the quality of the alcohol is poor.

The ultimate key in reducing hangover effect is to hydrate yourself constantly and thus aid the organs in detoxifying the poison. Because in essence.. we are poisoning ourselves every time we get drunk.

I think it may be a question of digestive enzymes conflicting and putting a higher stress on the organs making it more difficult to break down and efficiently detoxify the system. I find it is ever more intense when you mix alcohol families like beer and hard liquor for example.
