I was shocked at first, but when you really think about it.... all the drugs she has done. It was bound to catch up with her. Another music legend lost. Etta last month. Whitney this month. My thoughts are with her family.

That's what's so sad about it, when you CAN see it coming a mile away. She looked awful in those pix posted the other day leaving out of the club.

It's such a shame that she self destructed the way she did. All that talent, and now she's gone. It seems as though her daughter is now battling similar demons. IIRC, she's been to rehab, already.

The really sad part is, the way the music industry is set up. They won't let stars ease back, mainly becaue the stars are the cash cows. More work means more money for the record companies and the studios. It's a shame, 'cause then we get things like this.

I feel like quoting from a slideshow I once saw:

"Death is like watching a ship sailing over the horizon. We can no longer see it, but somehow, we can have faith that someone, somewhere, is there to receive it with open arms."

Whitney Houston may have left this world, but her music will live on to touch lives as it always has.

I am stunned and saddened beyond belief. She was the greatest voice of our generation, and I say that without hyperbole. Only recently, a month ago, I extolled her on my facebook page and I'm not given to such things. I don't think her talent was ever realized due to her awful relationship with Bobby Brown and her subsequent drug addiction so her potential will never be known, but what she gave us is still immeasurable.

Yes, the Hudson tribute promises to be a special moment.

It's always saddening when someone well known to us, especially a talent among us, passes from us. Whether young or old, we are lessened by the loss.

I recall a thread here sometime back about Whitney, and many expressed therein hopes for a comeback and the best of wishes for her, but sometimes life, fate, circumstances, whatever you want to call it, has other plans.

Why we lost Whitney is at this point not important. Sometimes there is no why. Sometimes death just sneaks in, unannounced, and steals someone away.

What's important is that we remember her, and those who've also come and gone, for the gifts that they have brought to us all.

Remembering Whitney.

I know it's sad but I think it's important to remember just how much she did achieve - she sang amazingly well for years and was at the very top, so it's not like her talent went completely to waste. Just a shame how it ended I guess - and how quickly? :(

I'm gonna be blunt and honest; Was I shocked. NO. given her recent troubles over the last 2 yrs with drug problems, one could only conclude that sooner or later this was gonna happen.
Am I sorry she's gone. YES. She was an extraordinary talented lady with a voice that could make the heavens open up and praise her. Certainly her cover of Dolly Parton's I will always love you is proof of that.
Will miss you, Whitney.

I am beyond completely devastated. I feel like I lost a family member. Easily one of the most important voices of my generation.

Listening to her sing live, in her prime, was a simple joy to hear. She constantly put on vocal master classes.

I'll be doing a special tribute to her on my blog as well as a Top 10 list of her songs.

I did see the stories about those cuts on her wrist...I hope she didnt kill herself..so sad ..r.i.p
She seems to have been in a good mood, according to people who spoke to her earlier that afternoon.
If pills did kill her (and I'm not saying they did, though news reports say pills were found in the room), I'm hoping it was misadventure rather than deliberate.

According to the reports on TMZ, who are assholes, but do tend to be scary accurate, she was found in the bathtub. She was in the tub for a long time, and when someone went to check on her, they found her.

The speculation was that she was in the tub, passed out from the pills, and drowned.

If that's true, that makes it even doubly sad.

However, they do say that people who commit suicide often do present as calmer right before they end their lives, mainly because they've reached a decision, and are determined to end their torment.

It is being reported that her mom, and her cousin, Dionne Warwick are both absolutely devastated and hysterical. As is Bobby Brown. There are reports that Bobbie Christina has had to be hospitalized.

Prayers to Whitney's family. Here's to hoping they find comfort, somehow.

Why Shocked??

No matter how low she got, almost everyone was rooting for her to come back. She had more talent than most will ever recognize!!

I just knew that she could pick herself back up and become the legend that she deserved to be.

Huge Loss!!

RIP Whitney
