Texas accents are wide and varied. Are you talking east Texas, west Texas, down by El Paso, Laredo, Beaumont, Amarillo? It's a big state and parts bring in Mexican influence other parts have that southern charm which can be sweeter than molasses head north towards oklahoma and there's another sound entirely.
I'm talking Hill Country, Sweetie. I was born and raised in Austin. Daddy has always been a cowboy at heart, and his father had a large ranch. But like I said my accent is influenced by my Mum as well, so it's kinda weird, I guess.
But you are right that South Texas seems to be a deeper draw, and West Texas is just plain strange in some places. And DFW is a lot like Austin.
