Which Birther hero has more wacko potential?
Candidate 1. Phillip Berg, Esq.
Back in 2005, a Federal Judge had imposed $10,000 in sanctions and ordered him to complete a course in ethical training, claiming that Berg committed a "laundry list of unethical actions."
The judge also wrote, "This court has grown weary of Mr. Berg's continuous and brazen disrespect toward this court and his own clients. Mr. Berg's actions ... are an enormous waste of judicial time and resources that this court cannot, in good conscience, allow to go unpunished."
Berg claimed that he had overwhelming evidence that, "Bush and his cronies made 9/11 happen or let it happen. And, if they let it happen, then they made it happen. Either way, they are responsible; and more important, they have completely and unequivocally covered-it-up!"
Candidate 2. "Dr." Orly Taitz, "Esq."
This "attorny" has managed to leverage the far-right's disdain for President Obama into a number of conspiracy theories, a few scurrilous lawsuits, and her fifteen minutes of fame.
Ironically, "Dr." Taitz may be be the only ineligible player in the game. Although Taitz is a member of the California Bar, she's not listed as a member of the American Bar Association. Nor is her "law school", William Howard Taft University, accredited by the ABA. Since Taft is a distance-learning school, Taitz's degree entitles her, at most, to practice in California.
Rules of attorney discipline forbid the practice of law without a license (without passing the bar exam after graduating from an ABA-accredited school). Her correspondence degree is only useful in California. Any action in which she appeared as counsel of record outside the state would constitute practicing law without a license.
