When I was younger, my parents were taller.
Probably, some time in my mid-teens, I was taller than my mom.
Late teens, I ended up being taller than my father.
Now, my father's lost some height due to old age... I'm a bit more taller than him now.

For certain generations, the 'western world' this children taller on average than their parents phenomenon the OP has noticed is true. Please note the 'on average'.

This is mainly because nutritional standards have been steadily improving, for all levels of society, since the early 20th century. Each generation eating better (and more) during childhood than the previous generation so are more likely to grow to our full height potential than their parents were.

I think about everyone I know is taller than their father/mother. My father was considered tall but I'm 10 cm taller (also much bigger shoe size).

One thing I have noticed but never seen any statistics about : it's often the second brother or sister who is the tallest of the siblings, not the eldest. Or am I imagining it?
