If you are watching your money (as most are these days), go to Marshall's or TJMaxx. You can usually get a good Geoffrey Beene or Calvin Klein. If you aren't watching your money then I would go to Nieman Marcus or Brooks Bros or Muse's. Their house brands are usually great. If you have plenty to spend, I really like Armani. I like the fit, the quality and cut. Can't beat an Armani suit.
I would not get a Hilfiger. I think he has pretty clothes etc but the colors fade/run and the buttons apt to fall off or seams fall out. My sister works at Macy's and she says that Hilfiger has the most returns for poor quality than any other label they carry.
I don't like JC Penny shirts either.
