Preface: we are not talking about payroll taxes but only about income tax.

From the Washington Post

In some ways, the answer is obvious. As we have explained before, any broad-based tax cut is going to mostly benefit the wealthy because they already pay a large share of income taxes. According to Treasury Department data, the top 10 percent of income earners in 2016 paid 80 percent of individual income taxes. The top 20 percent paid 94.8 percent. The top 0.1 percent paid an astonishing 24.5 percent of taxes.

The rich have it so tough. They've been getting poorer every year. It's no accident the rubes focus on only income tax which is not how the wealthy make their money.

I don't pay income tax, or any other taxes except property taxes and even that is limited. Once I learned the truth, I got myself out, and even put the IRS on the run.

The truth is, they cant tax you without your consent and your signAture. Either of which they have anymore.

Good luck with that

If you pay property taxes you obviously have some sort of "income"

Al Capone thought he did not have to pay income taxes either and he ended up out on "the Rock"

They can't arrest you, either. Be sure to point that out to them.

Percentiles. Just like your GPA.

The top 0.1% pay 24.5% of all income tax collected.
The top 10% (which includes the top 0.1%) pay 80 % of all income tax collected.
The top 20% (which inclides the top 10% and the top 0.1%) pay 94.8% of all income tax collected.

If you lined every tax payer in the nation in the order of what they pay, one fifth of them pay 94.8% of the income tax collected. The other 4/5ths pay the remainder (5.2%).

I thought only those enslaved to the TRUMP paid income taxes and that's why he provided the tax cut for them. Everyone knows the lefties don't pay taxes. According to all the off shore conservatives posting here the lefties only raise taxes.

Oh, and Russians ... wait, they just pay property taxes on their lovely apartments in Trump Tower.

It is safe to assume that the current president and his offspring pay no taxes.

This is not the relevant question. The two relevant questions are:

Is the State funding enough programs through the tax they raise? The obvious one for the US is Public Healthcare, free at the point of delivery. If you think that they should, then they will need to raise more tax and if you want more, who pays?

Secondly is the issue of wealth tax rather than income tax. And it is an issue, because lots of institutions have wealth, your colleges/universities, charities and the various levels of government. Should they also pay wealth tax? Business, Trusts etc etc. What do you do? Inheritance tax, capital gains etc etc..
