For a long time I've had a general awareness that the porn world was a lot more gay-and-especially-lesbian-friendly than the "real" world. But had not encountered many industry statistics, and found the AEBN database to be quite informative. At last count there were more than 88,000 hardcore porn titles for pay-per-minute viewing. 22% of these are on the gay side of the site, 78% on the straight side. But then I went through the straight side and found that LBT-- that is lesbian, bisexual, and transgender-- content accounts for 9% of the total. So purely heterosexual content titles are only 69% (!), and much of that includes girl-girl content without being labeled bi. Why such a low number? You might say that only 5% of people ID as gay and lesbian but bi-curiosity is rampant in the rest of the population, as a fantasy along with many other porn fantasies. These porn stats don't necessarily tell us anything much about real world behavior. But I think that possibly 31% of the sex that is happening on any given night is same-sex, even if nowhere near than percentage of people ID as gay or lesbian. In which case porn reflects the bisexuality of consumers.

You hit the nail on the head in that one sentence. As much as I love porn, I would hardly call it realistic.

I don't have an answer for your question - there are so many variables. The statistics only indicate percentages of content. But there are no statistics of the people who buy/watch it, which could be more revealing. For example: I'm gay but I watch a lot of straight porn. And I'm sure there are a lot of other people who could make the exact same statement.

I don't have an answer for your question - there are so many variables.

I think it safe to say that some aspects of porn are wildly unrepresentative of real life: prevalence of threesomes and orgies, shemales and breast implants. But as for roughly 1/4 as many gay as straight porn flicks, I wonder if that approaches the amount of gay vs. straight sex actually occurring in the male population.

The statistics only indicate percentages of content. But there are no statistics of the people who buy/watch it, which could be more revealing.

There are however statistics of how individual films rank in total views. The lesbian, bi and transgendered stuff is way overrepresented in the most watched on the Straight side-- just checked.

For example: I'm gay but I watch a lot of straight porn. And I'm sure there are a lot of other people who could make the exact same statement.

Including myself. I also wonder if AEBN has records about crossovers between the gay and straight sides of their aisle; would think there are more regular habituees of the gay side who also look at straight than vice versa. They make you sign in separately.

statistics and percentages tend to obscure reality.
for example: If you have 2 feet you have more than the average human.
fore:
some people have 2 feet
some people have one foot
some people have no feet.
rarely (perhaps 3-5 people world wide) have more than 2 feet.
Therefore, if you have 2 feet you are above average.

Because lots of straight guys like to watch women getting it on - thinking "Oh, how I'd like to be with them now!" Same with women watching gay male porn.

I'd bet gay/lesbian porn is the only way a lot of closeted gays and lesbians get to indulge their fantasies.

sexplease - check your statistics, that doesn't make sense. The vast majority of humans have two feet. The majority of those with less than two fit were subject to some accident or unfortunate circumstance. Those with more than two (of which I've seen few of being a fan of the unseemly underworld of the internet) are extremely rare. That is why a conjoined twin makes news around the world.

Men are obviously the main target of porn advertisements. For straight men, two plus women is appealing. I don't know why, but I like it. I imagine it goes the same for homo sexual men. Women are a minority in the porn industry, so their interests are unimportant to the marketer. Gay men are typically more open minded to this. In the end it really results in the fact that humans want to fuck. And, for the most part, men just want to fuck, and whether they define themselves as straight or gay, they want to fuck. In a world where no women existed, men would fuck men without reserve, see prison.

I think this really boils down to the point that all men want to fuck. All straight men want to fuck women, and all straight men want to fuck multiple women. A lot of "straight" men want to fuck one, or multiple, women, but also want to fuck a man. The point is that the marketers of porn know what they are doing. If you want to fuck it, they will show someone fucking it.

There's probably more gay porn because gay men think about sex even MORE often than straight men... and they're more likely to get it. Most gay men don't have hangups about "will he still respect me if I put out?" And getting paid to have sex with the hottest guys you can imagine is an additional bonus, not to mention the occasional "straight boy seduction".

Lots of reasons...

there is porn of every imaginable fetish in the world. from animal sex to orgies with thousands of people. the number of fetishes alone take up a good portion of porn.

Check here, Lesbian porn is considered straight porn. T-girls are like by some straights and by many bi's.
