Drifterword, just forget the harsh exchange. Olive branch extended. I hope you're mature enough to accept it.

Let's give it a go.

But please consider this, if there are human rights activists, they are going to point the finger at the US, if there are environmentalists etc, anti-globalisationists etc etc.. You may argue that the US is no worse than anyone else, but that doesn't mean that they may not have a point, and they certainly have as much right as anyone to voice it.

I am not talking about ignorance and prejudice, let's nail that on both sides.

Don't get me wrong, I've been at Manchester Airport and watched a plane come through from Costa del somewhere cheap in Spain and thought WTF. Why Western countries are getting more obese is a very serious question for all of us. Pity me, because I am going to have to pay for it in the UK through our National Health Service .

PS. If you have a sense of humour have a look at this http://www.theonion.com/content/news/study_many_americans_too_fat_to I am tempted not to point out that it is a spoof, but that could go badly wrong.

I'm jealous of your healthcare and speed you rebuilt new orleans after the hurricane.

actually the health care is the best if you can afford it. that's capitalism. new orleans should never be rebuilt. you don't build a city below sea level.
while this guy is a bit over the top. I can see his fustration. when it's time to shit or get off the pot. the rest of the world waits for the US to handle things. It will be interesting to see how everyone reacts with Obama siting on the sideline when a tough decision needs to be made (it's brew'in).

Why there is a United Nations is beyond me. We subsidize it and invite everyone to come over and bitch. and yeah there must be something good about us because there are a hell of alot of people trying to get over here. I think mainly so they can bitch some more because we're not like their homeland and lets not forget the US is the most charitable nation out there even to those who hate us. We're not that bad.

On the other hand it's not necessarry to rub in everyones face either.

I find this ironic considering this is arguably the most European city in America. There is no city like it in the US with its history of Native Americans, Africans, and Europeans intermingling with one another. Would be a shame to throw it all away.

It's very hard to discuss a topic of this nature without being bias or feeling culturally insulted.

At any rate, I lived in Sydney, Australia for two years, and I must say that it was one of fittest cities I've ever been to in the West. Sure, Australia as a country has its obese people, but I would dare to say that they were quite fit compared to the average North American/European (particularly the over 35-and-over crowd).

I've lived in Melbourne for several months of the past two years and would agree with your assessment.
