i love the fact that american teams always win the world series in baseball. and how fans of american football get so much for there money. making a game that has 15 minute quarters last 4 hours is genius!

All these responses have proved me right, a jealousy and hatred of the USA, you can sense it in the replies.
Yeah the French put up one hell of a fight let me tell you.... Bottom line is without the USA, Europe would not even exist, this is just the truth, whether you want to believe it or not. So the next time you bash the USA, think about what it might be like to not be able to join this forum, or do what you want, or be gay... Just some food for critical thought...

Most Americans I know aren't like that. I was actually pleasantly surprized about how cultured a lot of people are in the United States. Unfortunately, living caricatures like the OP tend to attract more attention.
We actually ARE grateful the US entered the war. No, we probably couldn't have won it without you - but you certainly didn't do it all by yourselves.
The UK doesn't hate you, but it is slightly annoying to be constantly asked about it.
However, I do think the US is suffering from a negative image around the world at the moment (obviously), for several reasons:
The attitude of people like Porter (arrogant, seemingly ignorant, and dismissive). Maybe due to insecurity about loss of prestige, much like Britain felt over loss of Empire.
Also, due to isolationism, and the fact that your prosperity and self-sufficiency meant you really didn't need to look beyond your borders much for a long time - and this produced a certain amount of arrogance, but not in all Americans, by any means. (Granted - during America's dominance - they did try and help out a lot of other nations, in terms of aid, plus helping to rebuild Europe after the war).
The fall-out after the invasion of Iraq, plus foreign policy blunders during the Bush years, turned public opinion in Europe against America. This, allied with natural resentment of the topdog, means that there's now an Anti-American knee-jerk reaction in Europe (less so in the UK), disproportionate to its actions...although this has reduced since Obama's election.
Finally - and this will be disputed by some - the EU does genuinely want to become a power to rival the US on the world scene. It launched the Euro to encourage a bi-polar world order in terms of currency dominance, and also hopes to become increasingly influential in terms of political world governance.
PS: Porter - if you genuinely wanted reassurance of whether the US is liked or not, you probably should've chosen a different way to go about it. Your first post seemed designed to provoke and piss people off. :/
PPS: I'm fortunate enough to know a fair few Americans personally - and find most of them genuinely likeable. Warm, friendly with a great deal of get up and go, and a great comedy foil for us Brits.

We win more medals at the olympics: You should! You're population is far greater than any European country. However if you combine just three European countries such as the UK, Germany, France, they collectively won more gold medals and medals overall in the last Olympic Games. In addition, the USA has a greater population than the combined totals of the three countries listed.
Have more wealth: It depends on how you define wealth but just as an example the USA has a land mass of 9,629,091 km2 ...the UK as an example has a land mass of 242,900 km2. So the USA has far greater natural resources to play with.
One of the biggest celebrations in the USA is Independence Day. A day where you celebrate independence from British Reign. As much as you may enjoy mocking the British/Europeans, without us the USA would not exist.
I'm jealous of your healthcare and speed you rebuilt new orleans after the hurricane.
I have this funny feeling it might have something to do with those of us who go around acting like the entire world has to kiss our asses until the end of time because of WWII, and the implication that we're somehow the only country on Earth who's ever done positive things for the world probably doesn't help either. Most people love their countries and are proud of the things they've invented, values they uphold, etc. There's something unique about America and our culture that makes us have to go around acting like the US has the biggest dick on the world's stage. We're just kinda insecure like that I guess, so in a way it's appropriate that a dude with no gallery pictures would be making these arguments on this forum.
