Tatts are trashy and I'll be glad when people stop doing them. Old people with bad tattoo are so gross
I occasionally look in over at
Ugliest Tattoos and one of the more common comments is along the lines of, "That's going to look terrible when he/she is old." In one such thread a person remarked that a tattoo would be good for laughs for the nurse's aides when the bearer was in a nursing home. Then someone posted this response:
"I work at a nursing home, and although they are not very common among that generation, I have seen several decades-old tattoos. Not once has the bearer expressed any regret about the change in the appearance. Most of the time they are proud to tell you what is means to them if you ask. If the tattoo is a decent size and fairly well done, most are still very recognizable for what they were.
As to being funny, I was literally brought to tears by a Pink Floyd tattoo on an inner thigh on a hospice resident because it was such a profound reminder that the bedridden and cancer-riddled lady I was caring for was once so vibrant and self-assured."
I read that months ago, but I still find it incredibly moving to think about.
I don't have any tattoos myself, though I have thought about it. There are a couple of images I have in mind should I ever finally take the plunge. Unfortunately, as my name indicates, I am pretty hairy and can't imagine hair springing through the images looking very good.
I don't have any big preference for or against tattoos. Piercings freak me out a bit just because I always think they're going to get caught on things. As long as a person leaves their face alone, I'm pretty much fine with anything.
