The reason you can't own Canadians is that they're not a neighboring nation per se... they're essentially a part of the United States that we just never got around to annexing. Mexico's a different story.

Did Dr Laura ever answer the letter? If so, what was Dr Laura's answer?

It is one thing to have an opinion about something, but it is another to use the Bible to justify one's beliefs. I find it inconceivable that someone who claims to be level-headed and who claims to bring people closer together can be so blind to the other realities of this world. Isn't the point of her show to bring down the barriers? Unfortunately, Dr Laura doesn't practise what she preaches.

Some of you may have already seen this:

Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a US radio personality who dispenses
advice to people who call in to her radio show.

Recently (years ago actually), she said that, as an observant
Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus
18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance.

The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a US
resident, which was posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as
informative:

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I
have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that
