Some of the answers on that link are quite funny.

But which came first, the chicken or the egg?

I'd say that would be a premature ejaculation.

We all know that the chicken came first, as it would have had to evolve into a chicken before it could lay an egg which would later become the first chicken whose egg was laid by another chicken.

Now let me check... did I get that.

    Yes I did! ;D

And did Adam have a navel? There was actually an attempt by 19th-century theologians to explain why the world seems to be far more than 6000 years old: Apparently, it "had" to be made that way.

My ruling? Religion is to stay at least twenty-two cubits away from science at all times, while science is to stay at least ten meters away from religion at all times. LOL

I disagree. I think science and religion can peacefully coexist as long as you don't confuse the two. To say, "the Bible can't possibly be right because science tells us ..." is the wrong approach. The Biblical authors didn't approach the subject of spirituality and covenant with God as science; any attempt to dig science out of sacred scripture is like looking for cartoons on CNN. There is even a Commission of Science at the Vatican. They don't seek to use science and religion to either affirm or contradict each other. Look at science for an explanation of the physical world, and look to religion for spiritual truths. That's what they're there for.

sammygirly: Also, just frankly - the authors and storytellers of the time didn't have the words to explain things in terms we would understand now, or think to compare with today's terms.

For instance, the world was made in 6 days...everyone looks upon that as story. But who is to say how long a "day" was then? Could have been millions of years and the concept of that kind of time span would have been difficult for them to understand...or put into words...so 6 days it is!

    It's all relative.

I just thought you'd like to know where the "chicken and the egg" question came from.

Any zoologist will tell you the egg came first.
