Am I right in reading this thread as colour being more a cultural thing than a racial thing?

Talking ONLY about physical differences between race - Skin color is just one of the differences right? Facial features, some physical attributes like height, hairiness etc too I guess.

If I find a guy (or 20% of a girl) attractive I would like him in any color well as long as it's appropriate for a human color.

I am so white, I have frightened children in your part of the world when I have stripped off at the beach :biggrin1:. They must have thought that I was an inappropriate colour for a human.

I am intrigued as to which 20% of a woman you find atractive

I think a lot of people are like that. For most black guys, the hair is more important than the skin color. So a dark woman with long hair "trumps" a fair skinned woman with shorter frizzier hair.

And then there's the expression "that's a lot of yellow wasted" meaning that fair skinned person is ugly anyway or has a bad attitude.

Not necessarily. I love a girl with short hair as long as it fits her. Too many bad weaves and extensions going around.

Personally I generally look at body type and facial features specifically eyes and lips and cheeks. I like athletic women. Not too skinny, not too chunky.

Man. Some very interesting and (in a few cases) disturbing responses. Can't knock people based on their personal experiences, which shapes their perception. However, I'm a black man via West Indian heritage, with some Portuguese and Native Indian ancestry, which gives me somewhat 'unique' features, as in I don't look strictly Black, Portuguese, or Indian, with lighter to medium brown skin. I'm not crazy though, like someone said earlier!

Anyways, I've dated 'ghetto' black girls, mid class black girls, a Native Indian girl, mid class white girl, and currently engaged to a mid class Portuguese woman. All of them brought something unique that appealed to me at the time I was dating them, and their race had no bearing on why I dated them when I did. I still feel this way. It's a shame that some people have decided to cut themselves completely from certain races, because there are good and bad in all, and you have to take people at face value. Well, I can't tell others what to do, except I don't look at a potential partner with any preconceived notions based on their skin color.

Oh, I totally agree.

You are lucky. I don't date every guy regarding their race. But I do know which guys appeal to me more. And lots of men don't consider me their type. I am really cool with that. Once in a while, I meet a guy that is amused with me more like I am with him. And I take it for what it is.

If I am not attracted to a guy, I say so. I don't give reasons. It isn't the end of the world. There is always someone out there for us both.

IT's great when nothing bad ever happens to you, then it's easy to keep an open mind.

**WARNING GALAXUS!! YOU ARE ABOUT TO BE FLAMED!!**

Well I know I'm gonna be flamed for asking this question, but I'm doing it anyway.

All the black women I've seen in this forum (to my knowledge there are only two because they are frequent posters) seem to only like/date white guys. Why is this?

I like the swirl too but I wouldn't limit myself to one type of woman either.

They are entitled to their preference, aren't they? I am sick and tired of seeing this and similar questions on forums!

If it's not a black guy asking why so many black women only date white guys, then it's a white guy asking why some many white women only date black guys. To me questions like this usually imply that the OP lacks self confidence, or is just bitter.

Live and let live people!

Know what you mean. My advice is look into the qualities you dislike about the guy who did you wrong and make sure to avoid those same qualities in the next guy. And I remember this works both ways. I've been done wrong by women also. Disrespected. I've been cheated on. Multiple times. Do I dismiss a group as a whole because of it? No. I just avoid certain negative traits and qualities that my ex's have. I've become really picky because I don't want to get fucked over or my heart stepped on.

"Black" is just a skin color like "White" is just a skin color. There are black hispanics, black Asians, Black Europeans, Black Africans, Black Middle eastern people, and black westerners.

I don't think there is a "black culture" anymore in America. I think it split up into "hip hop culture" and "black church culture" and you don't have to be black to be a part of either one of those cultures either.

Whoever said I've never had anything bad happen? I've had my share of bad experiences, but I don't pin it to a specific race. I had a really nasty breakup with my first fiancee, who was a middle class white woman. I didn't look at that situation and say 'Ok no more dating white women!" I mean come on, do people REALLY do that? And I'm not saying this claiming to understand people's rationale for why they won't date certain races, only that I treat people as I find them, their race is irrelevant. I love women PERIOD, I am attracted to all women PERIOD. If a woman appeals to me intellectually, physically, chemistry-wise, etc then I don't care if she's white, black, or pink.

One bad experience does not suggest a pattern. When you identify a pattern, and a toxic one at that, do you still go into the situation with your eyes closed or are you more careful.

Maybe I will date a black guy again. I don't meet so many anymore but I like my lifestyle so I'm not going to change it just for that. and where one usually thinks, ok three strikes and they're out, more likely, it will be just once is enough.
