I had no idea they hated those songs!:eek: Maybe it's connected to the same thing that makes them think The Three Stooges are hilarious.:biggrin1:

Eartha Kitt is truly amazing... as a wax-work... So many of the songs that she made popular are truly classics, but that one... "Santa Baby" is just plain creepy. Along with "Felice Navidad" by Jose Feliciano and anything Xmasy by Xtreme Jewish Princess, Babs Streisand!... YUK!

I would guess that men dislike "Santa Baby" because the woman in it is a materialistic opportunist.

Just when I think I am an independent, free thinking, unique person, naughty and nj come along in two simple posts and nail my ass to two generalizations into which I seem to completely fit.

    1) All men hate the Santa Baby song. Check.
    2) All men find Three Stooges funny. Affirmative.

At least make it look hard, ladies.

I agree - it's a comedy song and Ertha Kitt is brilliant - How can anyone not love her?!

My favourite version of 'Baby it's Cold Outside' was the one Rudolph Nureyev and Piggy did - love the role reversal :biggrin1::biggrin1:

Perhaps, at least in part (in the version you linked to) because it so clearly panders to a stereotype. For doing that I'd think women would hate it too. Of course that's easily accepted because it's not alone in pandering to stereotypes.

I can't help but think that when combined with (IMO) being simply irritating and almost entirely without musical merit leads many people to dislike it. I'm not sold on the idea that more men than women really do hate it, I am convinced however that more men than women will say they do.

Still, it's not even in the same league as tripe like 'Last Christmas' and it's ilk. One good Xmas song I do like (well, tolerate) is 'Merry Christmas' by Slade.

I DESPISE that song. Mainly because the tone of voice it is usually sung in is that high pitched Betty Boopy sounding voice that to my ears is like fingernails cross a chalk board. I am boycotting my wife's cell phone over the holidays as she has that as her caller tune and I now only call her business cell if I need to talk to her.

Why do women love this song so much?

Because men (allegedly) hate it, perhaps?

Just a really fucking annoying song if you're married, and your wife wants to see ol' Saint Nick come before you do.

I've only heard that song by Eartha Kitt and Madonna, and I didn't care for either version.

The reason I don't care for the song is the air-headed, manipulative whiny way in which its sung. In general I prefer women who sound like adults when they sing rather than a little girl: think Billie Holiday. Its the same reason I dislike Material Girl by Madonna. Its a song about trading items for love.

I used to hate "Material Girl" too, but then I looked through this book of misheard lyrics, and I can never listen to the song the same way again... Here's an excerpt to illustrate what I'm talking about...

Madonna has a line in "Material Girl" - "If they can't raise my interest then I'll have to let them be" or is that "If they can't raise nine inches then I'll have to let them be"?

    :biggrin1::biggrin1:

Now I start laughing every time I hear the song, especially when it gets close to "that" line.
