Anna Gunn, the actress who plays Skyler White, wrote an opinion piece addressing the animosity that she and her character inspire online. You can read it here: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/24/opinion/i-have-a-character-issue.html?_r=0.
In a nutshell, Gunn makes a very generic feminist argument that a lot of men feel intimidated by strong women, that she's not the typical "TV wife," that America still has a long way to go when it comes to gender equality, yadda yadda.
Personally, I don't think that's why people dislike Skyler. In a culture where so many people revere gangsters and consider the government their enemy, I think a lot of people resent her old-fashioned and slavish devotion to "the law" and middle-class respectability.
I could point to several examples of this, if anyone cares. What do the rest of you (at least those of you who watch Breaking Bad think?
