I would never lie about where I live.

I live in Canada. That's a fact. If you want to know in which of the 9 984 670 square kilomteres that make up Canada I live you're gonna have to get to know me a lot better.

I'm not lying either. I do live in Western Canada. Not Eastern Canada - that's very important to me . But as my friend erratic says, if you want to know where, you're going to have to get to know me a lot better. This is a very big country, even if you divide it in half.

I'm right where I say I am :) never lie...especially if you plan on meeting people sometime...for whatever reason.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner.

This is why you two rock. :headbang:

Yeah, it's strange, the fantasy locations don't even register as a problem with me. And anyone who knows me, knows how I am about issues of privacy, so I do understand that, as well as leaving the location blank. It's the people that swear that they're in a particular location, and post about it, when they're actually an ocean and a continent away, that puzzle me.

I completely agree with this reasoning. I'm not concerned that a stranger who met me on the internet finding my real location. I have a greater worry about the opposite problem, that someone I know already IRL will read my posts and think, "Hey... wait a minute! I think I know her!" Then he'll go and read a whole bunch of my past posts and figure it out, and I'll be really embarrassed depending on who it is and how indiscreet he is about it. I've mentioned this concern several times in the past and almost every time I get a few more PMs or emails from LPSG-ers who tell me their personal experiences of having had that happen to them.

I've been super careful about what I reveal here. If I really messed up, though, and revealed too much information that a person I know IRL could identify me from and I realized it and felt worried about it, it makes sense to me to throw out some red herrings to throw anyone off the scent.

I agree. And I definitely try to be careful about what I reveal. I do not want to be recognized by those I might already know. Period.

You're a brilliant woman. I'm sure that you're safe!

I was just thinking of possible motivations why someone else would lie about where they are, to answer the OP.

I don't lie period. My general location is the west coast. There's only one other member here that shares the same town as me and another member that knows my address.

But as the OP pointed out in the opening post of this thread, to me that's just deceptive.
