Talk about white privilege. And talk about inherited wealth.

Prince Andrew sparked security breach by 'smuggling' female masseuse into Buckingham Palace | Daily Mail Online

I understand that People want stiff inheritance taxes placed on wealth, say for the Walton’s or the Trump spawn. At least though someone earned something when we discuss “ heritage” as Perados puts it, for Bezos and Ellison and Gates.

The Royal family hadn’t done one productive thing, not a one. The lily white Queen Elizabeth has palaces and estates everywhere( have you seen Balmoral, Scotland could have a wonderful national Wildlife park if they removed the WASP queen and her slimy spawn from
power,) but no, these white privileged deplorables get a pass and for what?

I know it is England’s quaint tradition, but if we are examining inequality and racist white privilege around the earth, lets start at ground zero, the true epicenter of white racist privilege, the House of Windsor.

I'm shocked - a reactionary nationalist isolationist who worships at Trump's tiny little feet would be expected to praise Prince Andrew for his sexual adventures and his cavalier treatment of victims of sex trafficking.

Security blanket..............

Why are they there?

Why are they worshipped?

Why do taxpayers pay?

Why do they drive Aston Martins, own dogs fed better than a quarter of UK citizens?

Why do they live so long?

Why do they own so much property?

Why do they go on months long holidays to the Alps?

Why do other Commonwealth nations have to pay for their visits?

Why do taxpayers need to pay for offspring?

What role do they play in the modern world?

Why does the Queen have good teeth and little Johnny does not?

Why?

Why?

Why?

Why do they constantly whinge about being treated badly by the media when they are the most pampered family on the planet?

Why..............and there are a hundred more questions as to why this piece of ancient history still exists today...............

Please feel free to ad any reasons why or why not the royal family should exist by birthright and not by election..............................

You know, we could have a serious discussion about it at this board... but then I remember what you wrote and what your position is.

This makes me believe that you aren't interested in a real discussion, but only hope to offend people.
That the people from England who are against in inequality and support a higher taxation will feel attacked in their national pride and start defending their queen.
This would be YOUR MOMENT to tell them bigot and not consequent, bo matter what their position is.

I don't think it will work.

As parliament refuses to even discuss the need for such an anti-democratic institution, it demonstrates its own undemocratic credentials.
Make a list of the ways in which Britain is not a real democracy.....how much time have you got?

The UK is approaching the time when the role of the monarchy must change.

The old order is simple. The Queen has done a superb job and is very widely respected. We need the institution that is the monarchy - the firm - as part of the glue that binds together the Commonwealth realms and the Commonwealth and the British interests around the world. The easy answer would be that ultimately someone just like the Queen should step into her shoes.

The new order is indicated by the Andrew issue. Andrew is never going to become king and he can simply retreat out of the spot light. Even if charges are brought against him it is still the case that he is not going to be king and there's a limit to the problems. However the heir to the throne is Charles, and he is damaged goods. It is hard to see how the media would not remind us all of his friendship with Jimmy Savile. Charles is tainted. There are also issues around his failed marriage to Diana, who has been treated by the British public almost as a saint. I cannot see that there will be any joy in Charles becoming king, presumably with Camilla as Queen.

The default is of course that this is exactly what happens. I would like to think the Royal Family have the sense to realise that the pragmatic solution is for him to step down and for William to be the next king.

William's qualification is that he appears able to do the job. And it doesn't need to be any more than this. We have someone who can offer a necessary role in all the realms over which the next king will reign, in the Commonwealth, and globally. However I think there is realisation that there needs to be transition to something different.

The last few months have seen the UK constitution failing. The idea is supposed to be that the Queen is the ultimate back-stop, the bankers' equivalent of lender of last resort. The theory is that the mere existence of this back-stop means it will not be needed. However in the last few months it was needed, and it didn't happen.

There's a dual problem therefore. Charles is surely not fit to become king. And when we really needed the monarchy it failed us. Ouch! The pragmatic compromise is William as king.

The problem is that if you don't have a Queen you have a Trump.

The arguments against monarchy seem to be that if you have a democratic process and elect your head of state that person will somehow be a super leader who will unite the country. We've all seen how that has worked in USA.

UK has had excellent monarchs since 1837, which is a long run of success. There was a bad patch early nineteenth century, through a king who went mad and a couple of his inadequate sons. Previously 1688 to (say) 1810 was another long run of success.

England and the UK are not interchangeable words.

I'm not a fan of the monarchy, but getting rid of it is pretty low on my list of priorities. Also in terms of sheer land (at least one third of the land is still in their hands), estates, political power (through 92 hereditary peers continuing to sit in the House of Lords), the aristocracy is worse. There's a whole bunch of other constitutional reforms that need to be made first, like scrapping the current electoral system, getting rid of an unelected upper chamber and disestablishing the Anglican church.

The problem is that if you don't have a Queen you have a Trump.

And we had an Obama before that, and a Bush before that, and a Clinton before that... Point is, the person is elected every four years, for up to two terms, unless that sitting president served more than 2 years of his predecessors term. The elected official can be considered "good" or "bad", and even those terms are subjective. The Monarch is until death or abdication.

But alas, I have no skin in this game. I provided a link to a YouTube Clip from a 30+ year old film in response to Klingsor's comment about the Monarchy from someone who lives in the States (in Illinois, no less). Lighten up.

Out of curiosity, are the holdings of the royals taxed in the same way that the holdings of private citizens are?

The Royals except for the Queen all pay tax as everyone else. The Queen in theory is exempt but volunteers to pay.

Most of the assets that we all associate with the Queen are not actually owned by the Queen. She doesn't own the Crown Jewels or Buckingham Palace.

The Queen is probably worth around £300m. She's a rich lady, but we're not talking super-duper rich. Donald Trump's wealth is in the order of 10x this. A guy who uses my gym is probably worth more than the Queen!

Donald Trump is worth LESS than a billion

WAY LESS

He actually "owns" as in "free and clear" almost NOTHING

Almost ALL of those buildings that have/had his name on them he actually had NOTHING to do with, he got paid a one time fee of few million for them to put his name on them.

Never owned them, did not build them, never "managed" them

Like of your local mom and pop flea bag paid X dollars one time to Motel 6 or who ever to use their logo

She may own just a few hundreds of millions... the most part is owned by the crown.

Now is the question, who is allowed to USE this property, like Buckingham? Definitely not you and me, but she and her Family. She can't sell it, but is the only one to use it... and she doesn't even has to pay for it. To be even more clear, the tax payers pays a large part of what is needed to keep her private property intact.

She owns millions, can use billions... a millionaire with the life of a billionaire ;)

Independent from this, I really have a problem with monarchy. But we had this topic already more than once.. that's why I wont write anything else about it.
