If you're not religious it doesn't matter, but for those of us who are, there are significant differences. I'm not talking about people who celebrate cultural holidays, but those who regularly attend services, practice the faith on a daily basis. As a Jew, I don't think it's right to celebrate Christmas and Easter-secular as they might be these days. By not picking one religion, it waters down the practice and belief. One can't be a Jew and celebrate anything regarding Jesus, it goes against our belief. If I ever get married, I would only marry a Jewish woman. My family already has suffered the indignation of forced conversion to Catholicism and is mixed faith because of it and it makes life really difficult and confusing for children.

Well put.
Why is it so important an issuer to people who profess to not care?

been in love with a girl I've known forever she's catholic I'm not and she loves me but doesn't go further is why I'm asking for what her reasons would be I'm protestant btw
My first wife was a Catholic, her mother was a Catholic teacher at Padua Colledge . I am Christened Methodist (Uniting Church)...I'm not a church goer or religious person, never have been.

Anyway, we married in a Catholic church, the principal a Franciscan Monk friend of her family, her Aunt was a Brigidine nun.

No problem with the marrying part, except the terms were we had to promise any children born to the marriage were to be christened Catholic.

Felt a little bit like making a pact with Satan :)

My father (along with other family members of mine) is extremely devout in his faith and religion. After my mother passed, he ended up marrying a woman of a completely different faith. It does happen, but I think it often (not always, of course) comes down more to the individuals and their relationship with their religion and god(s) than it being the specific religions completely prohibiting marrying outside the faith.

I was raised by my extremely religious family to be one particular faith, but my relationship with faith and religion and deity in general went a completely separate path from the one my family put me on. A cousin of mine, whose parents are the same religion as my folks did similarly. *Shrug* Words and rulings from "higher ups" in an organized religion can be listened to and respected, but for me it came down to my personal interactions with deity more than what someone equally human said I can or cannot do.
