I hear Big Dirigible has been banned and that some people seem annoyed that the 'management' refuse to explain why it happened. I also heard they feel it's because we proles, sorry, members are, so it appears deemed unworthy of such consideration, that we are nothing but tolerated house guests, or naughty children who don't recognise what's in our best interests even when we're beaten senseless with it. That we are in fact biting the hand that feeds us (that last one seems rather backwards but, whatever).

Is any of this true, or am I at the wrong LPSG?

As for treating people like children, you and I will disagree on this point, but I have never stomped off to another website and called you names.

Well, once is more than never, now isn't it?

You're impugning my honesty, and so I've repeated my original quote. Yes, I once called you a potty-mouth to your face, and I have never ventured to another website to talk smack about you behind your back.

If you can find a post where I insinuated that I was a mere marionette with Rob_E pulling my strings, cite it.

Rubi, do you really think this is still about opacity, and not about finding someone to burn at the stake?

So many nosey parkers in this thread. I'm sure Big Dirigible will tell you why he was banned. This thread shouldn't have been more than one page/two posts. It's fuckin ridiculous.

Yes, but this ideal has been stated and restated here, ad nauseum. As a result it's becoming mere white noise, and thus tuned out. It's neither a groundbreaking concept, nor so it appears, one that's well understood or applied by those who ride its coat-tails.

I applauded because it is something that I have stated in other threads. I have stated it directly, and I have implied it. I see people in here constantly blasting the far right and wanting their freedom of speech taken away. If the far right adopted the same stanch, the far left would have never been able to speak. As a moderate, I get sick of the bs. I do not agree with a lot of ideas that have not been fully thought out. However, I do defend the right for someone to be a dumbass and express the viewpoint.

Oh, so if the mods ignore us long enough we should just cave? I don't agree.

I wouldn't have taken several hours out of my day to point out the problems if I didn't feel the site was worth saving. I have someplace else to go- I'd like to be able to be in both though, if it didn't make me want to puke.

Disturbingly, you already pointed out these same problems in a thread called "An explanation of bannings" over a month ago. That thread seemed to be building towards some sort of discussion about the role of moderators and offenses worthy of a ban, yet it seemed to die on the vine. I wonder if this more serious issue could have been derailed if swifter action would have been taken at that point?

You praised Wldhoney for actually reading what you said. Please extend me the same courtesy. I didn't mean what you somehow inferred. What I said was that repeating the same thing a million times doesn't make it a million times more true, effective or likely to be put into practice. Too often, the reverse happens. Learning by rote may pass exams but it's a poor subsitute for understanding.

The evidence is littered throughout a dozen threads like this one.

I have spent several hours here too. Step down from your high horse for just a moment and look around, you may find you're not alone in this thread.

Vomiting isn't always a bad thing, it often rids us of toxins before they do real damage. It does tend to leave a bad taste in the mouth though, but sometimes that's a worthwhile price.

MZ-- you have to realize that no one will listen to you or me because, well, it is you or me.

You know a ban is questionable anytime Gillette votes against it.

BD got banned because some of you don't like him and bullied others into voting along.

Zora has been on the downside of that bullying.

Get over it and get over yourselves.

I agree. I wasn't trying to do you, or the concept down, I've said the same thing myself more than once. I'm sorry if you thought I was.

However, I do defend the right for someone to be a dumbass and express the viewpoint.

Agreed, so long as we can shoot them once they've expressed it? :biggrin1:

It won't work. We lost that right in Texas when we joined the United States. Altho, I did know the head of the local mob. He loved me. I could have had them iced.
While I'm on my soapbox, I am so sick of another type of thread. If you don't like Christians, why don't you go to a site that is just about bashing them. It has been so over done. It's like the "Is my dick big?", and "All blacks have huge dicks." threads.

Okay, I see what you're saying. It was my assumption that you were saying that what I was doing was ineffective so I should stop doing it. Was that wrong? Maybe you have another suggestion of how things should be handled, but I didn't see one. I agree that no one is listening to me, but I'm still expressing exactly what the problem is. Perhaps you're suggesting I change my approach- I am open to reasonable suggestions. Or maybe YOU should just do it your way, and let me do it mine. Just a thought.

How was a on a high horse? I was making a statement of fact, not a vie for supremacy! I just said I'd spent a couple hours here to show that I wasn't trying to derail lpsg. I do want to see it get better or I wouldn't waste my time. What in God's name did that have to do with you? Where did I say or even insinuate that no one else had spent their time trying to do the same thing? Jeez. *sometimes when I'm talking about me, I don't bother to include other people:rolleyes:*

I know, and I agree. Maybe that's all I'm doing here. That's one of the likely possibilities.

When asked, Big Dirg says he's never gotten a reason beyond his warning letter. As has been pointed out, after his warning, he actually quite changed his tune, which again begs the question as to whether his banning was a foregone conclusion, and the warning a mere formality.

In this case, the liberals are defending the free speech rights of a conservative.
I personally seldom agreed with BD.

As has also happened IRL, the ACLU (to whom I regularly contribute) has successfully defended the civil rights of the Klan and the American Nazi Party, and not just once.

This controversy is a consequence of an indefencable action by the moderators, not anything BD said or did, that I see.

I have seen no moderator response to the points I raised in the previous post, #273.

I was not accusing the liberals in this thread of attacking Bd. I was making a general statement about some things I've seen in the past. It appears to be liberals arguing with liberals about what was done to a conservative.
Yes, the ACLU will defend the rights of those two but it opposes the rights of Christians. I don't like it when anyone is discriminated against and oppressed. As I posted in a previous thread, and Madame Z agreed with me, my American Indian relatives are still at the bottom of the shit list. We'll treat you like shit but keep on letting us exploit you. We know better than you do.

This one gets confusing. The problem with "Chrisitans" (I put that in quotes to mean as a group- not a comment on specific individuals) is that one of their tenets is evangelism. Therefore some Christians feels their rights are being impeded when they are not allowed to tell other people what to believe! Further, they feel their rights are being impeded when they are not able to not only pray in group functions that also involve non-Christians, but also to use manipulation to exclude or demean non-Christians for not participating in said prayers. I have not seen a case where the ACLU, or lefty moonbats in general gave a crap what Chrisitians do in their churches, social groups or homes. If Hindus can't go door to door and evangelise, then Christians shouldn't be able to either. It's a moot point, because as of now they can, in most places. I don't know what you're referencing when you say the ACLU opposes the rights of Christians- I don't see it that way.

Yeah, many Native Americans live in horrid conditions despite a rather obnoxious amount of time we've had to set things right that our forefathers fucked up for us. It's a real national shame.

Father-knows-best is usually the worst possible alternative.
