I think this new site is a healthy thing. Its like getting rid of weeds in a garden. Now flowers will grow. The intention of this site and using the Lpsg logo are not good. I think everyone who is there should be banned from here forever. I question ones heart who is so dark and cold to do such a thing to man like like Rob E who has worked so hard to make such a nice place to come too. So everyone grab a rake and weed the garden. The weeds were the big problem . The weeds are not wanted here anymore. We need flowers.........................

What I find so interesting in regards to uncut's post, is that if you take it and compare it to posts over the last several days from members who disagree with him or his stance, his is far more courteous than many.

There are so many contradictions. For example, those that have been upset that moderators have stated free members should not be complaining and that they have too much control and that information should be available and open, are the same ones who are on another thread suggesting all kinds of regulations and attempting their own form of control because it is what THEY want.

It's as if no one can win because there is no willingness to compromise while demanding concessions from the other side. There are too many Chiefs and not enough Indians and they all want their cake and to eat it too.

It's hard to see yourself objectively, and the longer you spend in the "good guy/bad guy" mindset (there's a hard word for me to type right the first time), the harder it becomes to disentrench yourself from it.

Calling people weeds is not courteous. Calling for people to take up rakes, and get rid of others is neither constructive nor courteous. I read the other site. They are just expressing their opinions and venting. At no time have they called for it to have moderators or strict guidelines. For the most part, it is to be self-governed.
Here, have some All-Bran.

It really amounts to is that- like any other place there's pleasure without the pain. And no one wants to take the latter. Can't happen there, folks.

If we subscribe to the notion that we should toss out all the troublemakers who make pests of themselves, then this place is gonna become barren- and fast!

Why couldn't it instead end up a place of people contributing thoughtful quality content, with some witty fun sprinkled in between?

Threads with thoughtful content are not what "Is my dick big?" people want. I hope what you wished for comes true novy. I miss us having real discussions with fun thrown in on the side.

I've made a contribution to the "be part of the solution" thread that's intended to help along these lines -- I'd be interested in your feedback on it.

I think they just ought to make a forum for heated arguments, bitching/whining, etc. Anytime a thread starts getting nasty it would be moved there and kept there. If someone continues taking it out of that forum, then theres cause for action.
Perhaps you could call the forum "the bridge.":biggrin1:

Yes, and to be honest I would think there are a few people who feel that way but do not want to post it. Both here and in my real life (of the last 3 days) I have had to say “whatever, he is entitled to his opinion, and as long as he is not ONLY spouting it behind my back I don't give a F@%& what he says.” This is along the same lines. In short, he is putting his opinion out in public and I can't really fault him for it. As you mentioned, it was done so in a calm manner (despite the rake comment.) I can understand why somebody would feel this way if they think the only reason that somebody would be a site “over there” is to run down this site. I have explained my reasons VIA PM to three or possible 4 people and would do so here but do not feel that I owe the board an explanation for my actions. (O.K. Let the “you don't owe us an explanation for your actions?” questions begin.)

One of the more popular chatters who is gone told me he left because of the nonstop bickering. He's been gone for months. He left long before this last blowup. It's like this place has gotten too many people who crave attention, and love to be a pain in the arse. They are unhappy in life, and want to make others miserable.

That description would also fit Big D to a tee, hootie.

I saw him as an attention addict who contributed little but acrimony, cynicism and discord while here and I rarely ever remembering him saying anything positive in any thread. Quite the opposite, actually. He might descend from on high at any moment to heap sarcasm, derision and ridicule on any thread, post, moderator, or the board itself. It was he who propsed a "bear pit" forum for the sole purpose of encouraging more conflict among LPSG members.

In short, the guy behaved like a thug and I think it was his hidden purpose from the beginning to undermine LPSG and lure its members away by sowing discord among its participants any way he could. It seems he accomplished this goal magnificently.

This site is full of attention whores. If someone makes posts in regular font, it's easy to ignore. If they make it in giant font with bright colors, they are determined to make people see it. Some of the posters have an addiction to the giant font, and bright colors. Anyone who wants can make a post. They have been entitled to post their viewpoints even if it's the unpopular one. Otherwise, we are going to have a room of dead sameness. It would be terribly boring for people who can think for themselves. On the other hand, lemmings would love it.

I'd like the mods to explain this one.

It seems heavy handed and unwarranted to me.

What was the transgression?

Is it temporary or permanent?

He was a respected member in my book even though he could be disagreeable and blunt. He backed up his opinions.

Spare us the privacy concerns, please.

I am serious when I ask this question, have any of these questions been answered. I am a member of both sites and still don't know.

Most of us are attention whores, I don't post photos with the intention of them being ignored so I don't see that being an attention whore is such a bad thing.

I don't see this as a good/bad situation, it's a situation where everyone believes what they want is the right thing. Anyone who's been on similar sites will know that there's a regular cycle of moaning then it dies down to start up again after so long. You can't suit all of the people all of the time, but Rob has made the very positive step of asking us all to submit ideas we think are worth considering. Even if he implements some of these changes there will still be people who want to moan and witter on about the changes they want. If anyone comes back to me with a site where people can comment on a forum and there isn't any friction or disagreement I'll pay £50 quid into their paypal account.

If Rob implements every single suggestion there'll be an equal number of people moaning about the new rules.

We're human, humans like a moan and a disagreement and if you can't accept that then maybe the net isn't the place for you as it's the one place you can have your moan and your mum won't ground you :)

At least one of the posters who sometimes gets called out for fonts and colors has a disability that can affect focus and concentration; I've operated under the assumption that that poster's choice of colors was an accommodation to help separate sentences and ideas to aid in communication, and not merely a cry for attention.

If you're using the Firefox browser, I can help you in crafting a local stylesheet for LPSG that overrides other people's font and color choices so that posts are displayed more uniformly. (Other browsers allow this as well, but Firefox is the only one that I know how to implement this on.)

So how would that help this particular poster read the rest of a page? By fiddling with fonts and typefaces, he's only making his own post more visible. But he already knows what his own post says. Right?

Normally if fonts are too small, one makes an adjustment to the monitor driver. Set it at a lower pixel count (a.k.a. "resolution"), and the letters all get larger. Setting font sizes in the browser would work too, but only for that browser, and not on web pages which override the reader's settings.
