Society claims to be really supportive of being who you are without having to feel responsible if anyone is offended or disturbed by it, with those who may be uncomfortable cordially invited to eat shit. Seems to me that requiring people by law to conceal their bodies doesn't fit seamlessly into that attitude.

I am nude most of the time anyway - at home - in my garden - and down on the beach - so that suits me fine - I don't mind throwing some gear on occassionally if I need to hit town. Cheers.

I think it's ridiculous the amount of trouble people can get in for being naked. Carrying a gun is legal, but going about your business with nothing on isn't. That makes no sense to me at all. Exactly one of those two things is dangerous. I agree that we need to be very careful about how much sexuality we expose our kids to (though through advertising, music videos, ads and whatnot I think they're exposed to a lot more than some people realize, and a lot of it isn't very healthy messaging), but I just don't see how nudity per se is damaging.

All good answers, but it just won't happen in today's society. Everyone is to uptight and most have their children thinking nudity is a crime. Us nudist have always been looked at as perverts. Only two places i know you can actually live naked is in a naturist town in france and one in Brazil. Besides that the world is clothed. Lucky we do have some nude beaches and nudist resorts thru out the US.

because law makers in america are composed of fat hairy old men with small penises who are ashamed of their bits and pieces so they consider nudity to be 'pornography'

Unfortunately we're stuck with the puritanical social mores and taboos that have shaped our society but, as previously mentioned, there are at least some places that we can hang out (pun intended) naked with others of like mind.

Some pictures gleaned from the 'net:

Although it's frown upon in most parts of the world, some areas, like in the Czech Republic, have no reason to be bothered by guys (and girls too) from pissing in public or public breast feeding. After 16 years you don't see it anymore. I'm afraid the US has some pent up issues....

I just love Silvertip's "highwaysign" picture. Cool guy, lots of courage!!

But bear in mind that even in relatively undeveloped tribal societies, both men and women hide their genitals in public, and often even their anuses. It seems to be hardwired into us (if I may use what may seem an inappropriate term under the circumstances!!). Maybe it's just for protection, but I think it's for modesty.

Having said that, I see no shame in being naked in appropriate places, which includes in the home (yes, even in the presence of kids, it's perfectly healthy for them to see the human body unadorned), in the presence of close friends, and on nude beaches. I'm of a somewhat older generation where guys were perfectly relaxed about being seen naked in the locker room, by their room-mates, and an opportunity to go skinny-dipping was treated as a fun event!! The YMCA and even many colleges had a standard "no swimming costume" policy in their men-only swimming pools. Yes, this was often a cause of embarrassment for some of the more bashful guys who were insecure about their bodies, but for most of us it was perfectly routine and normal. I'm sure most of us sometimes looked the other guys over, making comparisons about the bodies in general, perhaps feeling envy, or perhaps pride, and even wondering who among them were perhaps gay. Isn't that what being human is about? But mostly it was just an everyday type of event.

I was never in the army, but in the barracks open showers used to be standard.

I regularly hang around the house and private areas of the garden naked and swim nude whenever I get the opportunity!! I've been to quite a few mixed-sex nude beaches and really enjoyed the freedom.

Public nudity is illegal? Uh, not here in San Francisco. :) I guess those who pass laws here are enlightened enough to see that being naked is a natural right of being human. Yay for them and this wonderful city!! There's plenty of room here still, so if you feel that not having this right elsewhere is keeping you from being happy and free, then come on out to SF!!
On a side note, there is legislation in the works at this very moment that wants to require people to at least put down a towel or covering before plunking their bare asses on public seats. That should probably be common courtesy, but still fair in my opinion.

Really? I mean, I don't have an issue with it. I think nudity is only dirty when you allow yourself to make it dirty. But are people really walking around SF butt naked? I feel like I would have heard about that before now.
