Technically it's meat because it's the flesh of an animal. The story I heard as to why it's not considered meat by Catholics on Friday is because way back in the day the church wanted to help out the fishermen by increasing sales of fish. If you like the Filet-O-Fish thank the Catholics.

Can you explain why you think it's meat?
Or maybe why you're vegetarian?

For me, it's a living thing, it's animate therefore eating it is meat. I don't differentiate that it's not a mammal or vertebrate, sentient etc. It's living therefore it's meat to me.

I'm not vegetarian for any moral reasons though I do love animals and am for animal rights. I just dislike 'meat' per my definition.

I feel like eating fish on Friday's during this time is really just a cop-out.

My question is why are eggs, milk, and cheese allowed on fast days???

They're not meat. You don't need to kill the animal to obtain them.

Strictly speaking, with advances in veterinary medicine & prosthetics, it's no longer necessary to kill an animal to obtain meat. You could just amputate a leg, but that just seems wrong. Very, very wrong.

That's an interesting way of looking it at.
I guess depending on what animals you were eating it might be able to regrow limbs or something as well.
Then all you'd have to do is name it Prometheus and you'd be all set. :biggrin1:

Actually medical technology is rapidly appraoching the point where they can grow meat, organs etc in a vat. I think the research being done is more toward gorwing human organs for transplants but could easily be repurposed for growing food as well.

But on strict fast days they are included, is that because they contain the same buiding blocks an meat.

Broccoli in the produce section was once a living thing, too, but I'm assuming you differentiate between metaphyta and metazoa.
