i do note a decline in US-based porn generally in the quality of who participates, and believe it relates to the decline of "star" status with all the available internet offerings. Colt Studios, Falcon, and Catalina had some total stunners, for example. But relative pay then attracted both customers and iconic porn stars.

While tastes vary widely, the point was well made that there are categorically more stunning men historically in gay porn.

I'm going to assume OP is correct and offer a possible explanation. We all know people overcompensate. It's even a stereotype for men --- luxury car to make up for the small penis... etc.

To me, a group of people who are more likely to overcompensate would be young gay men. All of whom have been through a lifetime of trauma of growing up gay.

Since random chance tells us there are gay men with 'attractive' and 'ugly' faces, one might guess that the 'uglier' men could overcompensate for their face by building a sexier body--whether it's huge and muscular or lean and toned. The insecurity that played into this is also what could lead some of them to something like porn...where they are getting constant validation for their sex appeal. This validation never fills the void since--- it's all from strangers! Worthless validation in the long run. so they just keep going and keep searching.

I'm no psychologist but I am an MD. so... FWIW.
