Whats with the massive misinformation campaigns and the right? Are they just addicted to the sensationalism of conspiracies. The emotion of anger drives so many to believe false narratives. We saw that in nazi germany as well how anger was a driving force despite being lies. I think people like marjorie taylor green love to get on a soapbox for the attention and spread sensational fake news.
The suppression of truth and the supplanting of facts with disinformation, lies, and propaganda are one of the elements of FASCISM (see Wikipedia, I'll not provide the link) which includes:
- a far right authoritarian ultra-nationalism
- dictatorial power
- forcible suppression of opposition
- a belief that liberal democracy is obsolete
- a rejection of the notion that violence is automatically negative in nature
- a belief in racial purity combined with racism, bigotry, and the demonized some "other"
- motivation to commit mass killings and/or the deportation of those perceived as "other."
Among the writings they had determined to be subversive were works that attacked the "new Germany," writings with liberal, democratic tendencies and attitudes, historical writings that they believed denigrated the origin, spirit, and culture of German people, books that advocate "art"
(which might invoke a wtf? response until you remember that art usually involves an originality of independent thinking that was the very antithesis of a collective mindset),
entertainment that depicted life in a "sickly sweet" manner, books critical of "German purity," and ANYTHING written by Jewish authors,
Oh... and PORN.
Nor did they stop with the burning and banning of literature and even OPINIONS they found offensive. They also persecuted authors, as well as artists, writers, and SCIENTISTS (yes they hated science too), banning them from working and publicizing.
Some were exiled, others deprived of citizenship, some died in concentration camps, and some were executed.
