Meh.

To an indoctrinated idealogue. Sure, there's a shit ton of difference. One is being perpetrated by The Defenders of Freedom and Rainbows and the other by the evil empire of old white guys. I get it.

No problems. Another old white guy who gets shit done.

NO quite OBVIOUSLY you do NOT !!!!!

Thanks for sticking us with Rupert Merdoch bud!!!!!

Like I said, "Give 'em enough rope......"

I'm sorry, but you still don't have a leg to stand on.

It's perfectly legitimate to encourage and assist people to vote, even if you hope to gain political advantage. Both sides are free to do so; the net result will be a higher turnout and a more accurate representation of the general populace.

It's NOT legitimate to try to restrict the voter pool by disenfranchising certain demographics who tend favor your opponents. If both sides did *that*, we'd reach the point where it's hardly worth holding elections at all.

It's not a question of altruism--of course both sides seek to further their own agenda. It's a question of the means by which they go about it, and the stark contrast between them.

You're right in the first part, as long as they are qualified voters. No problem. Although I query just how true it is to drag people to the voting booth on thier shame when they would have normally sat on their hands.

You're also right on the second point. But both are still manipulative of the democratic process. I think this problem gets a lot worse without compulsory voting.

So is holding 'campaign rallies" and doing TV ads, sending out mailers and all that kind of thing also "manipulating the voter base" too ???

I'm already out there. I have no idea what you think you have revealed.
The "revealing" is that of your own, champ.

Like I've already said, you've presented arguments and positions in the guise of rational, open minded, thought yet, in little more than 72 hours, have revealed YOURSELF to have subscribed to a LOT of narrow minded, misinformed, bigoted concepts.

The only consolation being, you're not the first of your sort to have come here trying to put lipstick on a fkn pig.

We'd all like qualified voters, though we may not always agree exactly what that means. But that can never be an excuse to disenfranchise the poorest and least educated, since that only silences their voices and confines them even more inextricably to the bottom of society.

If you want a qualified electorate, help raise *everybody* up.

You're also right on the second point. But both are still manipulative of the democratic process. I think this problem gets a lot worse without compulsory voting.

If you want to call both parties "manipulative," that's fine, but I'd say the word operates in a much more negative connotation in one instance than in the other.

Illinois GOP Rep. Jeanne Ives’ anti-Rauner ad ripped as 'racist, sexist, homophobic'

Both Democrats and Republicans called Rep. Jeanne Ives' gubernatorial campaign ad "bigoted" and "homophobic."

The “ad” is included in the articles.
Ives is on a level with Joe Walsh.

And it will probably "work"

And not to be confused with THEE Joe Walsh !!!!!!

And Joe Walsh was sent into oblivion.

Ives is based in Wheaton, Illinois home of the Billy Graham affiliated Wheaton College, the Illinois Family Institute https://illinoisfamily.org/ which is listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, and Illinois Family Action https://illinoisfamilyaction.org/ both supporting her.

Got it, but for those that are lost.

Joe Walsh,
former Illinois Congressman. One term.
A combination of Ted Cruz, Louie Gohmert, Steve King, and Devin Nunes.

old disabled people.

Fuck them.
Are you planning on taking your own life when you reach 65 or even earlier? You very well may be the person that is in an auto accident and paralyzed from the waist down wearing Depends 24/7.

Many historians judge societies from the past as how they treated children and the aged.

I for one plan to live to be aged. I hope I will always be able to take care of my basic needs. However, we don't get to make that call most of the time.

I am in favor of required voting in general by all citizens of the USA. There should be a fine for not voting. A small fine perhaps $25 would be enough incentive to the vast majority of citizens to vote.

There might be need to be mechanisms in place to identify those who are, from a medical standpoint diagnosis, not able to make a decision or be able to vote. That option could be abused with written tests etc. to determine voter eligibility. We have been there and done that especially in the South.

The voting time should cover three days with early voting also allowed. Having voting precincts open until nine pm would also help.

The people rule. That is the foundation of a democracy. Nothing would do more than required voting to make our nation more democratic that having all citizens who are able to be required to vote!
