I know there is one study with a 15,000 or so sample size that says 5.2 or so is average.

However, so many of us have such a different experience. As I've said many times, my 5.5 incher is one of the smallest penises I've encountered in about 60-70 encounters I've had sexually with gay men. Almost all have been bigger than 6 inches with I would say a majority over 7 inches. I've also experienced 10 inch, 9 inch, and several 8 inch guys. I know some will say my experience is skewed and that maybe I'm a liar or bad measurer. But hear me out....

There are many valid reasons why more studies need to be done.

1. Still to this day, penis size is a measure of a man in media, movies, TV, and culture. Just look at the recent attention Adam Demos has for the Sex/Life series and his massive schlong.
2. We want to know how we REALLY stack up. The 5.2 average from this one study might satisfy some egos. But I'd rather really know where my 5.5 stacks up. Reality is better to deal with.
3. Expectations. If there was really good data on not only averages (means), but also medians and modes, that would also help in the expectation game. So many guys have expectations that their grindr partner needs to be 7.5 or above. If he knew that the chance was truly rare that might help with managing expectations. On the other hand, if one knew that there were plenty of big guys out there, then those of us with smaller ones would really know and be motivated to develop other qualities to be attractive.
4. Women know where they stand. Their breast size is out there for the whole world to see. Same with their bottoms. No one cares about their genital "size." It might be better if men were the same - maybe then a smaller, attractive penis would be as accepted as a women's smaller breast.

Those are just some random thoughts about the subject. I'd be curious if others would also like to see more studies on the subject.

1. If The average was closer to 7 inches, there wouldn't be much reaction to that one scene. (It was a prosthetic by the way)

2. Totally understandable, but a bit Ironic that all the data was looked over and there to see but you still would rather take very unscientific anecdotes and personal opinion over data and yet say "reality" is better to deal with.

3. Expectations are hard to meet because some people will say they want a huge dick(Aka 8+ inches), take a look at my pics and say I meet their criteria. But I am not "huge". I have tried this on Grindr and on other sites. I keep getting guessed as waaay higher than I am, like 9 inches, and so if I slept with them, they would be convinced they slept with a guy with a "9-inch BBC"

4.Ironically the fact breasts are easily seen by all is why there is no controversy. But if women for some reason actually cared about something like "vaginal depth" There would be just as much arguing and such as penis size because most only see their own and can only go by word of mouth or scientific data. And we all know how bad people are at estimating and guessing in real life.
If all men were nude at all times, there would be no doubts about the scientific data out there.

Remember, those of us who are larger are much more likely to show it off and put pics and selves out there. Which makes it seem like "Everyone" is big in real life. But it is also just as easy to lie and add 1-2 inches and have everyone believe when on sites like Adam4Adam, Grindr, Reddit, LPSG. Unless there is a ruler on top, most will not know what size a penis is just by visuals alone. It's way too easy to manipulate by angles

Also PHOTOSHOP is very easily done nowadays and you can even ask someone to do it for you. While I usually can tell a photoshop job, lately they have been getting much better and for lay people it is damn near indistinguishable. Want to see examples of that, right here on LPSG there is a photoshop thread with all the before and after pics. And I KNOW for a fact most people would never question the afters if presented as a pic.

I like a lot of what you say but most of what you say backs up the main point - that it would be great if there were more studies. I just don't think one study even with a 15,000 sample size is enough.

But there is more than just one study. Have you looked at sites like calcsd?

calcSD - Full Penis Size Percentile Calculator

calcSD - The calcSD Global Average (v4)

There he takes all the data, even the ones that have a much bigger self reported size and averages them all oout. The average comes out to 5.5 inches. It's more than that one 15,000 study. I would assume you have known this, which is why it seems so weird that you ask for more studies but they are there to see and read.

Looking into this issue for a psychology paper is how I ended up here. CalcSD combed through the actual published literature. They selected what they selected, and tell you why. They didn't select some studies, and tell you why. They amalgamated 56 studies, and tell you how they weighted them. Then they put all that data in a "calculator" to make it easy.

I'm pretty confident in their methodology, conclusions and transparency.

Templer's book Is Size Important collects a lot of studies. He devotes one chapter comparisons of data between studies, and another to correlations between the penis vs other body parts.

It's a relatively lightweight book, easy to read casually, skim, or for quick reference.

The Veale et. al. review of studies (15, 521 men) is deeply flawed!

Only about 600 of those men were measured erect; the remaining men were measured flaccid stretched and/or flaccid (with various methods of tension and nearly no data on temperature which affects flaccid size). Many of the men were under the age of 21 (which Veale discussed as a flaw). There is a good sub Reddit that discusses how the 5.16 average isn’t based on very reliable data.
I think the CalcSD site discuses the flaws of Veale as well.

I do think we can safely say that most penises fall within the 5-6 inch range, but the 5.16 erect average is very misleading.

Not to pour water on a good parade. Oh, maybe not that just adding an angle that is actually everything. You just want to know you are okay in that way, size, to your lover. One of the things that you ponder is their past.

Personally lived with two porn stars as a roommate. Many as in many other group housing situations in which someone in house had a behemoth. There is only one rival and they fall short in the final equation but they can be in the discussion to a huge dicked guy and that is someone with a huge wallet. Yes. they fall short and it is a lack of referrals for "good sex." I put that in quotes given how many hundreds of times I heard something akin to "I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it but once I got the chance I had to try and in no way will I ever try that again" from people, male and female, that tried that "unicorn" cock that actually isn't that rare just the one that was within their contact list.

So, once we find out the real average it will not be that helpful. The "big dick" guys have plowed hundreds if not thousands of women on referral alone!.

So, if you are like me and in that falsely as it is to actual experience of size, take heart. Be glad if not joyful that he/she has been there and done that. So, size, your size, is not an issue. They have miraculously decided that they want you to be their lover. Oh my word are things great!

Do NOT be jealous or even curious to hear them speak of said. Be happy that they are making a real choice based upon a variety of experiences and your dick is PART of their choice. Yippee!

CalcSD has a page on skepticism. Like I said, they're very transparent.

calcSD - Is This Website Wrong?

They also have a page on preferences, which is really the question at the end of the day.

calcSD - Preferences

That's the one I find interesting. I'm familiar with the Prause study, and not surprised to see him include it. I do take issue with using an average for a preferred size, when if you look at the scatter plot of their actual choices you see that it's a wide range. A couple prefer huge, like 8 1/2. One prefers 4". What's cool about Prause is that they never used any measurements. They 3D printed a bunch of blue cylinders. They tested tactile memory. Women know very well what they're dealing with just by feel. Point being that they didn't throw numbers out there of what they preferred. They preferred cylinder A3, and only the researchers knew what A3 measured. Here's the scatterplot of the data. What it doesn't show is a heat map by how many times one of those dots was chosen.

Another thing the Prause study addresses (ignored by the media but included by CalcSD) is importance of penis size relative to other attributes. There are two women who equate penis size with any other. All the rest rate these as more important than penis size:

Kindness
Intelligence
Foreplay Skill
Travels Abroad
Wealth
Good Clothes
Political Attitude
Enjoys Cooking

Less important than penis size?

Eye Color
Type of Car

Believe the ladies. If you weren't blessed, Prause shows at least 2 women who think of your dick as ideal. Average? Plenty of women will be quite happy, thank you Mr. Goldilocks dick. Big? Wow, same thing. There are ladies who prefer that too.

Not sure if he meant it that way since he went on for a couple of lines or two, but this part @FreddieCrunk wrote is fundamental truth.

You just want to know you are okay in that way, size, to your lover.

I 10000000% agree with you. 5.2 is absolutely NOT average. I'm also gay and have been with about 100 guys. I'm about 4.5 and only ONE was smaller. The huge majority were over 6 inches with most around 7 and some in 8 or even 9. It is extremely rare to see a dick less than 6 inches in my opinion. There was a study called the definitive penis size study which, though self reported, I believe was much more accurate in terms of actual average penis size which I believe is probably about 6.2 inches. About an inch greater than what is reported. They collected thousands and thousands of responses. I think this 5.2 thing makes guys feel better because 99% of them will be bigger than that so they don't really want to do too much more research to find out that they might not be as big as they think they are. These 5.2 inch studies are bs in my opinion, from personal experience only, but 100 guys is a pretty good sample of cock size.

Your own experiences can be biased by whether you are a top or bottom, feminine or masculine, etc.

Science is science. The average penis size is NOT 7 inches or any of those other ridiculous numbers. It is most definitely closer to 5 inches.

In any event, the real question is not how many penises you measure but how you measure them and how you obtain the data sample.

Also what age is your sample? Penis size changes with age. Another factor? Weight and body fat of the subjects.

Here's the size data I was talking about. Yes it is self reported, but so far off from what this weird 5.2 study says. In my experience, and the experience of most gay men I know at least, this is a far more accurate study of measurement than the ones that say 5.2. This says average is 6.4 which I think is around the true average for size.

Self reported data is as good as made up data.

Men always exaggerate theie size. I see it even in this site.

I'm sorry but there is absolutely no way that 60% of the men I've been with have been in the top 1.5% of penis percentiles. Just not possible. I actually measured most of them cuz I have a thing for it. My ex was almost 8 inches. Statistically it is impossible.

Let me guess.... you are a bottom boy and a size queen?

Have you ever heard of bias?

I like big dicks, but I don't choose guys based on dick size. I don't usually know someone's cock size before I sleep with them. I honestly cannnot believe for a second that 7 inches is top 1.5% of dick size. Just go to a urinal you'll see huge cocks everywhere. The "studies" don't have accurate data. The self reported data is probably much more accurate as this study has 2500 subjects, I highly doubt they all made up their measurements. When you're home and doing it yourself you can actually get hard. These "studies" were never measuring cocks at their hardest.

You dont choose the guy based on his cock but you do select the guy and the guy chooses you, right?

I dont know how you cant see what I am talking about. If you are experienced enough, it should be obvious.
