I have never seen the movie, but in all the photos from it that I have seen, Stanley is wearing a T-shirt, not a sleeveless undershirt.

Pictures & Photos from A Streetcar Named Desire - IMDb He wears one in the scene where he comes in from getting the car worked on in the movie, the scene that leads into the rape scene

Its a favorite film of mine. Love it.

I like to wear them to bed in the winter along with working out. I only wear them as an undershirt when i am dressed up. I also prefer to wear them to the beach or when I do yardwork. I male sure to tan with my shirt off though so I don't have beater tan lines!!

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but in the UK we call it a Tank Top, I'm assuming since they were worn by men working in tanks...

I myself like to wear sleeveless outfits (tank tops, vests, hoodies) due to the ventilation - I live in the tropics, and they're always good at any time of the year (warm and humid the whole year around).

May not be a buff bodybuilder, but hey, I'm going to wear what I'm comfortable in, as long as it's reasonably decent :D

What is the point of wife beater undershirts? I can see how a crew neck T can be a little warmer and protect from pit stains. I don't see any benefit from a tank top though.

there are times when I want to wear something but a t-shirt is too much and constricts the armpit area. Also they are good for just hanging out with buddies when it's hot but not hot enough yet to pull off the shirt entirely. Have them in white, black and red.

I always wear the A-shirt, like Silvertip calls it, rather than a t-shirt under a white dress shirt or any dress shirt for that matter on the rare occasion that I wear a tie. A T-shirt underneath a dress shirt is too hot and constricting for me. The A-shirt covers most of my body hair which would otherwise clearly shows through the dress shirt fabric. I wear tank tops but not A-shirts around home both outside and inside in the summer but not in public. I think tanks and A-shirts look great on really buff guys but they are often stereotyped as having an attitude.

I have a closet full of sleeveless sport shirts, which I wear as every day clothing just about everywhere I go. They have more material covering the shoulders than "wife-beaters", and offer many more colors. I do not wear undershirts, even in the winter time. So I do not wear the type the OP is asking about. Would not personally. Where I work they are not allowed, but sleeveless shirts with manufactured seams on the arms are okay.

Saw this guy today at walmart in line behind me. Fit, tanned, my age (early 50's) commando in pajama pants and a wifebeater and a rainbow lanyard around his neck with his keys. Got to see his furry lil ass when he got the bag of dog food from under the cart and also saw a lil bit of his trail. Yum. So he sees me checking him out an says "not a chance". Ya ok so im about 40 lbs overweight. But you havent gotta be a dick. So i responded "your loss cause yes im that good". Gorgeous but an asshole

I have a mix of both t-shirts and a-shirts. I wear the a-shirts when it's hot. Pit stains haven't been a problem since I switched to clear-gel antiperspirant.

I only wear them as undershirts.
