Will Smith

Hmmmm.......well I was surprised by an on-site view of Denzel Washington while on vacation in Bali (Indonesia). I was at a club characterized as gay and it was festive enough for sure. I was sitting near the entry way when all of a sudden Denzel walked and froze upon seeing me (black American). He said hello (after I greeted him by name) and soon left the club.

Thanks for the interesting response. This is what I was looking for.

I remember when Will Smith took the role in SDOS. I was in high school. I remember being shocked to see his transition from rap star to sitcom star, and even more shocked by the transition from sitcom star to movie star. And even MORE shocked that he would take the role of a gay man. I mean, we are talking 1992 or so. It was all very incredible. I really admired his bravery.

I also remember reading an interview with him at the time where he mentioned the advice Denzel Washington gave him about the role. And I remember going to see the movie and seeing the non-kiss and thinking, "Oh, he did take Denzel's advice." (Denzel said that because black people have fewer black role models to look up to in movies, they tend to believe that the role an actor plays really is who that actor is.) So, years down the line it's fascinating to learn that there is talk that even Denzel is bisexual.

And the talk about Eddie Murphey being bisexual as well ... perhaps not that shocking after all. I recall his notoriously homophobic rants in "Delerious," and I recall an encounter with a transexual hooker.

Anyway, thanks for the response!

It's been a longstanding rumor that Will bats for both teams. Although he played gay in SDOS, the story goes that he was so uncomfortable having to kiss Anthony Michael Hall in that film, that he consulted Denzel Washington, and actor he admires, on how he should handle it. Supposedly, Denzel told him not to do it if it doesn't feel right, which is why the scene was shot showing the back of Will's head, with the two actors "pretending" to kiss. If you watch the scene, you can tell they're not really kissing at all.
I'm from the same city as Will's wife, Jada, and this not being too big a city, I've met people who know her. I've heard that she was a "wild girl" growing up, so if she and Will do have an open marriage, I wouldn't find it too hard to believe.

Obviously you never saw Six Degrees of Separation. He rocked in that movie. Pity he had it de-gayed a bit, but this was decades ago. It is a great movie.

Well, "Six Degrees of Separation" came out in 1993. That's not exactly decades ago.

That is true.

I wouldn't doubt it if a lot of actors in Hollywood are bisexual, but Smith isn't one of them. I do hear they have an open marriage, though.

well look at it this way, when you were in High School how many straight guys were in the drama club?

Eddie Murphy likes trannies. Living in NJ and a performer (drag) I am friends with a lot of trannies. 2 of them have told me that he likes to watch trannies have sex (with other people). He never did anything with either one of them though.

Not sure about Will Smith, but I would not put it past him to be bi-sexual. He hangs with Tom Cruise who has had rumors about him since the beginning of time.

John Travolta admitted he was bisexual early on in his career, but has not spoken about it since, but when he did the Actors Studio on A&E he was introducing his friends and 1 was queenier then the other.

As far a Will Smith making any formal comment about the situation, maybe he will and maybe he won’t. It looks mostly like this type of news could, in fact, devastate his family and career possibly. A father and husband to Jada P-Smith, this is terrible news and hopefully a bald faced lie. Surely, this is a big blow to the superstar as this one comes out of left field…
In 2009 he should have no problem telling his wife and his fans that he was gay or bi if that was a fact. Hope someone identifys the Madam and makes her realize that stories like that is BAD for her businezz.

Well, to clarify: the guy who said Will Smith is bisexual gave me a tour of Hollywood, has worked in many movies, and said it is common knowledge about Will Smith. He said everyone in Hollywood is gay. Certainly, that's an exaggeration.

I will add that the man who gave me this information is a black man himself. He said that he was disappointed when he discovered this about Will Smith. (Shortly after telling me this, this man showed me where "Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire was filmed, and where Will Smith lives now.)

I think you're naive to think that an A-lister would be able to come out and have it not impact their career. Will Smith plays alpha-males. He played Ali, for God's sake! If he announced he was bisexual that would probably mean an end to his career, or at least a major career shift for him. A-listers usually do not come out of the closet. They seem to be forced out.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I think that overall the African American community is more homophobic than mainstream middle America. I believe this is because it is a deeply Christian society, deeply fundamentalist/Baptist, etc. And we all know what these religions teach about homosexuality and bisexuality.

Then there is also the possibility that Will Smith is indeed straight and I have put way too much thought into all of this. It's not like I've always found him highly attractive and would love to imagine him getting with another man. Nah. Not at all. (He has the greatest ass too! I love the shots of him running in Men in Black. Some great shots of his ass there!)

Bland.

If he is in Scientology, he's not bisexual. The church of L. Ron is extremely intolerant towards "gays".

thats why the big gays who are Scientologists are paired with the opposite sex for marriage...what happens privately is different. They just have to keep it under the radar....

I don't know of one religion that is WELCOMING to gays. They are all homophobic to different degrees.

I don't know how this got under the topic of Will Smith's Bisexuality...
anyway...apparently biology is homophobic as well...because so far
only a man and woman have been able to make a child...now I ask you...
is that fair:biggrin1:

It may not be entirely fair; but, I doubt many men, no matter what the joy once the child was born, would be wanting to have a baby exit their penis slit.

Seen in the lights of the fact that intercourse between a man and a woman is the only known way to produce a gay person.

When you are as big as Will I think honesty would gain more than damage him. And I know what an tremendous impact it would have for your gay ( black ) men struggling with their sexuality. I choose to believe that until Will tells us otherwise. hes str8.

Hm. . .I always think of it the other way around: if he is in Scientology, he's *definitely* gay:

  • Tom Cruise
  • John Travolta
  • Will Smith
  • Others?
It's a racket - they actually recruit celebrities because they claim they can "cure" homosexuality (though their founder, L Ron Hubbard, specifically decried this practice in 1967 and the church has a very strict non-discrimination policy). Once the celebrity is "in", they have an unending funding source for keeping them safely in the closet.

Sorrrreeee!. My fault for steering this post from Will Smith to religion. Thanks for your comments re male/female == children.
