Well exist in its current form that is.

I'm hoping NO, and I'm not even Scottish.

As somebody born in England, I couldn't care less what they do or are, and they only became of note because they coasted on the empire England initially built. And let Wales and Ulster have independence too, i don't care lulz..

It just doesn't seem the most economically efficient scenario for either England or Scotland in my eyes.

If you don't care, then why bother to start a thread on the topic? :headscratch:

If England were to remove itself from the United Kingdom of Great Britain, then they would also remove all financial support as well as governing responsibility.

I don't really think Northern Ireland, Wales or even Scotland for that matter could stand alone for long, if at all, without the support of the United Kingdom as a whole.

Frankly it pisses me of to hear people bashing the English for the sake of our imperial history. You don't get people harping on at the Italians for the history of the Romans, nor at the Scandinavians for the history of the Vikings.

It's just that, history.

The English have had their sense of national identity all but quashed by the excessively politically correct, chinless ruling elite for so long, they just take all the backbiting and whoa-is-me bitching numerous countries feel justified in dishing out.

No country's history is clean of crime and sin but really, I doubt some countries would even have basic sanitation, infrastructures or any form of economy had the British, be they English, Northern Irish, Welsh or Scottish, not had they broad history they do.

I hope the UK remains intact.

However I'm aware of the polls which suggest if the English were to vote on Scottish independence then there may well be a majority in England voting Scotland out.

I hope Scotland votes to remain part of the Union. And the day after the vote I hope the people of Scotland realise that they are getting a very good deal from Union, and that the tone of debate therefore changes. Scots need to be aware that their action has created a degree of irritation in England. I suspect the way forward will be a collapse in support for SNP. I also think that - irrespective of result of the independence referendum - the UK parliament will resolve the West Lothian question so that Scottish MPs cannot vote on English domestic matters. In effect this could lead to a Labour UK PM who has an overall majority but cannot get any legislation with an English dimension through parliament.

It's just this sought of English arrogance and exceptionalism that gets the Scots riled up in my experience.

Who can blame them? Bullies are loathed generally.

Whether they could or not I personally don't care. I don't see a good reason for the UK to remain as it is though.

the scots may hate the sassenach English but they won't vote to break away. not a single poll has shown the independence movement remotely in the lead. although a year is a long time in politics...

however in an increasingly globalised world we should be enjoying our interdependence and moving away from isolationist tribal feelings. we all need each other. our strength is together.

er... because I offered my view. Which is I don't care, hence opening up others to express their views. Do you have a point, or you're too dim-headed to comprehend the purpose of this forum and that others don't give a shit about your subjective views?

But yeah, it seems the opinions of others offend you, eh?

England is a land of arrogant bullies then? Based on what, exactly?

It's the scots are so hard done by and want complete separation from the United Kingdom, then they must be prepared to stand 100% on their own, financially as well. Why would the rest of Britain continue to fund and support them?

Actually you've just made a statement and explained it with apathy.

A view or an opinion would seemingly need some form of divulged explanation, curiosity, concern or solution.

If you truly didn't care, why is it your hope for change in the UK?

They don't.
