Will we ever be able to copy & paste GIFs again?

I've noticed that whenever I try to copy & paste a GIF into a thread, it is a static image and still won't display movement. I realize this was addressed recently and the solution required some roundabout workaround on the part of the poster, but has it been fixed yet to use the simpler method or is it just not working for me? If not, is it going to be fixed? Understandably some of us are not very computer savvy and don't wish to take so many extra steps like signing up for an image hosting site just so we can store GIFs (that will only be used once) to upload to another website, when just copying from the webpage and pasting here is so much easier. I've given up even posting them lately because without the animation it seems pointless.

I'm not sure how the forum software here works wrt copy/paste. Usually, I anyway download and then drag & drop. But if a file format is not supported, I copy the image location (the URL going directly to the image) and there's an "insert image"-button where you can paste that URL in.

Inserting the URL doesn't work, at least not for me. Forget the exact wording but it will say something like "URL path unrecognized" or something like that no matter what website it is coming from.

I have found that it does work like you said if I download the GIF first to my computer and then use the "Image insert", but then I wind up with all these GIFs on my computer that I only will use once.

It just seems like too much work and hassle for something that used to be the simple task of copy & paste before the upgrade. And make no mistake, it is the upgrade, since the simpler method of GIF placement still works on another forum I sometimes frequent that has an almost identically formatted look and operates just like the old LPSG and which still seems to be working fine for them.
