Well, you could buy a Mac.

I took the windows upgrade and it has not been the best version of windows for me. Having done that I am getting the usual updates, which are usually fine but I also am getting regular mega updates which occasionally move things around and disable some features until a later update comes along. As a result I'm already pricing mac's and will switch over at some point soon. I simply am lacking the confidence I expected with the product. I am deeply disappointed having used windows since the 90's.

Even better. Just make the switch to Linux. It's all free, and superior to Windoze and Mac. And it comes in many different flavors to suit your needs. Did I mention that it's all FREE??

And you did know that Windows 10 AND Mac all report *EVERYTHING* you do (even offline) to Microsoft and Apple, then sell all your proprietary information.

I did mention that all Linux distros are FREE, right?

You can postpone it indefinitely with the update manager. However, doing so, can become a security issue and can cause a lot of new software to not run on your computer. Microsoft has chosen the Windows 10 approach to streamline security updates and to enable to company to concentrate developers to a single platform. In the past (with 2000, XP, Vista and 32 and 64 bit as well as 95/98/Millenium Edition legacy support) they saw a lot of incompatible software, by working on a single Windows platform and UWP/Visual C# with Xamarin out of the box for developers they enable companies to release Android/IOS apps to the Windows PC and Phone platform.

And they will pull the plug on Windows 8.1 in 2023, little freedom of choice.

I have the same problem with Windows 10 trying to download on my laptop. I overheard a conversation where someone downloaded it and it caused major problems on his PC.

i see you appreciated my return and response after 3 weeks only jpk

well it surprised myself and its truth i have had no problems at all with that last update

incidently it ws a bloody 'comprehensive' update, like it asked me if i agreed to its terms etc etc
about 3 times?
seemed to take over an hour, of which i was pissed off,
and went thru the entire process again

i may be dreaming but it may be a little faster
wont gaurantee that as the w 10s on a toshiba
this slower w 8 is on a acer

ironically my lady friend in Canada had mentioned exacrtly what you have described
adding that its cost a fair bit of money for her friends to 'fix' there computers

who really knows, certainly not me, but for the moment i am more than content with my toshiba with w 10 ..

I get a pop-up ad every day to "upgrade" to Windows10... And, I delete it, every day... I'm not against "change", but, I'm against being forced into it to something that isn't any better than Windows7... Make it truly user-friendly, or shove it up your A-hole, MicroShaft!

I'm on Windows 7 - upgraded - shit - re-installed Windows 7. That little Windows icon sits in my task bar mocking me! :)

I never go for upgrades of any sort, phone or pc. It usually leads to one thing, then another, then another, then another...before you know it, it's all over red rover. Then, you have to delete it all to get back to normality....whatever that is, or was :)

Some companies send you on a guilt trip....do this or otherwise the bogeyman will get ya.

Half way through install I thought 'you gonna regret this now' not a good start I guess :)

Best thing to do when companies start to hassle your internet viewing, is take your device to a trusted computer guy. One that has been in your local area for some time, place on memory stick all the stuff you find personal..twice, then get him, or her to just give your device a jolly good tune up and tweak.

Runs like new after that.

It downloaded onto my computer automatically. At first I was annoyed but so far it seems fine. It's like windows 7 combined with windows 8. Programs are now called apps (which took me a while to figure out) I had to do some fiddling to figure out how it works and where things are.

The feature I HATE is the automatic photo albums it creates!!!! It just finds photos by date and puts them into an album and it's not an easy feature to shut off. Since I keep most of my photos in a separate folder on my hard drive I can prevent it from finding the photos (you can set what folder it uses as a source.)

Windows in all it's wisdom found "related" photos and put them in the same album based on the date they were loaded onto the computer.... Porn with photos of my students! Thanks Windows 10!

Other than that, it seems okay!
