Texas GOP Platform Advocates Criminalizing Gay Marriage, Banning Strip Clubs, Pornography

Marriage Licenses - We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such.
The proposal from Republicans in the Lone Star state makes the following claims related to the party's view of homosexuality:

    • "We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases."

    • "Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have beenordained by God, recognized by our country's founders, and shared by the majority of Texans."

    • "Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable "alternative" lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should "family" be redefined to include homosexual "couples."
They also want to "Outlaw" all sexually related businesses including strip clubs and Pornography. I say Good Luck with this platform. I think even the tea partiers are partial to their porn.

I'd be ok with the criminilizing gay marriages and banning strip clubs, but- banning porn? NOW they've gone too far!:mad::wink:

And the IQ level of America goes down another 50 points, all thanks to a number of Texas Republicans in power who can't get laid.

Perry was ahead in all recent polling until today. Perhaps the GOP platform and Perry's drop in the polls are related.
SHOCK POLL: Texas Governor's race deadlocked

Public Policy Polling shows Democrat Bill White tied with Republican Rick Perry, each with 43% support.

There's no way they're going to close all of the strip clubs in Texas. It's like the strip club capital of the country. Now they might close the adult bookstores since they just use craigslist to find random dudes to blow.

Qualified Juror Service – Jury service should be limited to registered voters.
What you can't just be a citizen anymore? But have to be registered to vote now?

Texas Sodomy Statutes – We oppose the legalization of sodomy. We demand that Congress exercise its authority
granted by the U.S. Constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy.
A Supreme Court decision doesn't matter they want to force you abiding by their beliefs. Even though they oppose Sharia law.

Judeo-Christian Nation – As America is a nation under God founded on Judeo-Christian principles, we affirm the
constitutional right of all individuals to worship in the religion of their choice.
<heh> as long as it is christian....

Boy Scouts of America – We support the Boy Scouts of America and reject any attempt to undermine or fundamentally
change the ideals of the organization.
Considering the mormons sponsor more scout troops than any other denomination I wonder how that will go down...

Federal Reserve System – As long as it exists, We, The Republican Party, call upon the United States Congress to act
immediately to pass a bill to require a full and complete audit of the Federal Reserve System and, that upon completion of
the audit, the results be immediately provided to the United States Congress and to the People of the United States. We
believe Congress should repeal the Federal Reserve Act of 1913.
Now this is a reactionary thing that won't be happening

    • Reject raising or indexing the gas tax.
unless the gas tax is based on a percentage then they are just begging for financial troubles down the line

Time for them to just throw in the towel and change the name to Christian Democrats. An ideology that has a long history.

One might also ask how subjecting women seeking abortions to anti-abortion talk constitutes "protection from pressure" rather than just pressure.

It was only a matter of time before sodomy got mentioned.
Seriously, homophobic politicians are more worried about things going up someone's ass than Dawson from Treasure Island Media.

You mean, of course, "why the hate on the part of the Republican Party?"

Because this is who they are.

Many of us here have been trying to tell you so for years now. This is what the vast majority of conservatives and those further right of center believe in. Is anyone actually surprised?

Funny thing is, it is THEY who claim that those on the politically left and trying to control our lives, are trying to regulate and impose their will upon America, are the "socialists".

Outlaw that which they consider pornographic...pass judgment on what constitutes a family...obstruct womens' rights to determine their own destiny...decide for us who we should worship...determine what should be acceptable sexuality or what does or doesn't "tear" at the fabric of society...??? Sounds a lot like freaking interfering in our lives to me.

IN fact, why don't they just quit "mincing words" and fucking around. Go ahead and break out those goose stepping boots and twisted cross. "Seig heil".

Which in some perverse sense is the point. A silly point, yes, but a point nevertheless.

Indy, apologies, for this is a bit off topic:

As a graduate and alumnus of The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, Texas, Austin where I spent blood and lost my sense of humor just to obtain an MA and Doctorate, I can attest that wingnuttery has been entrenched in that "State" probably since its inception.

However, I do miss cruising Barton Springs and letting midlifebear junior hang free at Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis. But those were in the days before the serious mega churches magically appeared on the landscape.

There also used to be this great porn theater (a real theatre, old, big, with balcony seats that were once reserved for "colored only" that was right across the street of big ol' Black Baptist Church on Congress in South Austin that had a parking lot (the church's) full of Mercedes every Sunday. That theatre was a great place to go with a female companion who had lewd sexual tastes that made mine seem prudish. We'd hit the balcony about 4:00 PM and engage in major group grope wetness with other couples and a few hot single frat boys in the flickering dark until the last drop of everyone's bodily fluids were used up. But those days, obviously, are over. Memories, however, are forever.

Regardless of the sexual freedom of the time, it didn't take much to get into a fight if you dared make a joke about the Lone Star State of mind.

The more the reality of this odious platform (whoever called it "Sharia"* was on the right track) sinks in, the more votes it will cost Texas Republicans. In the words of a famous Texan president:

*My apologies to X704: quoting without attribution is a lazy way to post.
