out by the fact she had allowed them to become 'stuck'. Aren't you supposed to be cleaning that area daily with peroxide and turning the piercing, so that doesn't happen. You know, like with earrings.

"After nipple rings are inserted, the skin can often heal around the piercing, and the rings can be extremely difficult and painful to remove,"

Such piercings are one of the most painful and take the longest to heal. If it had not healed for a year it may have been impossible for her to put them back in.

For the people who feel that she should have had them removed, maybe people with metal plates should have them removed too.

Body piercings are an accessory. As such they are not required to be in place 24/7.

Not true. Many piercings, especially those in mucous membranes, can heal in hours. There are plastic retainers you can get for some piercings, but they don't work for everyone for every piercing.

Also, if nipple rings are crusty and can't move freely, there's a problem. However, removing them can make them very difficult to get back in unless it's a well-healed piercing. And you should never, ever clean a piercing, even ears, with alcohol or peroxide. A gentle, non-irritating antibacterial soap and sea salt soaks are all that should be used. Peroxide and alcohol can damage and irritate the tissue.
