Is that why single people eat so fast? I've noticed this trend at dinner parties.

Yes, it is for me. If I am dining out alone and have forgotten to bring a book or something to do, then I eat fast so I can stop feeling like such a spectacle and get out of there.

Wait a 2nd, at dinner parties? At a dinner party one is not alone. I wouldn't eat fast at a dinner party.

I absolutely hate dining alone in a restaurant. Fortunately, I can cook better and healthier than most restaurants (espec. since I'm vegetarian), but when I do go out, I can easily torture one of my kids or a friend into going along with me.

When I'm traveling by myself, I usually sit at the bar to eat. That way, I don't feel freaky, sitting at a table all by myself. It's fun chatting with the bartender, and relatively easy to deal with who/whatever sidles up next to me. If I don't like the person, I'll talk about some imaginary disease that I have, and that usually sends them on their way.:tongue:

Dining alone sucks. Since I am pretty well known in my city, it is really bad for me because I can feel people talking about me when I am out alone. I finally decided to just give up and hired someone to cook for me. This way I can have gourment meals in my PJ's :biggrin1:
