Am I the only woman on earth who gets offended by the ridiculous stereotype of the "shoe crazed woman"?? Not all women are obsessed with shoes. It makes us sound like we're idiots that we salivate over shoes.

Its like saying all men are obsessed with cars, or all men can be pacified with beer and sports.

The fact that a majority of women in a given culture display a particular behavior is not rendered an invalid observation by the fact that a minority of women differ.

Nobody on earth thinks stereotypes represent ALL members of any group.

Don't take it so seriously... As a man I get stereotyped by women, and by other men, all the time.... So what?

The fact that I am an outlier does not make me upset when people erroneously make the assumption that I must give a shit about the Super Bowl, because for other people to make that assumption makes perfect sense.

I am smart enough to realize that MOST men DO like to watch sports.

And most women in this culture Do like shoes...

It doesn't make other people dicks nor stupid to understand this to be the case.

If you're not offended by it, no one else should be!

Black people: stop being offended by stereotypes that you are all just gangster thugs and welfare queens.
Asian people: stop being offended by stereotypes that say you are all bad drivers
Jewish people: stop being offended by stereotypes that you are greedy.

Am I doing it right?

No... you're doing it wrong.

As I pointed out, no one I have ever met imagines that any stereotype applies to ALL of any type of person.

However, because of a well known phenomenon called confirmation bias, People will always give greater weight to experiences that confirm their assumptions than to experiences that counter them.

Its why people still believe in religion- because they count the good they associate with what they believe more than they count the bad.

So, A- get over it. Stereotyping is a form of cerebral shorthand. You are not gonna stop others from doing it, and I have never met ANYONE ANYWHERE who doesn't do it, themselves... But, again due to confirmation bias, the folks complaining about stereotyping are the very ones LEAST likely to recognize it when they do it.

For example, Both the post I was responding to, and YOUR reply, are nothing but stereotypes.

The Notion that even MOST guys or Girls assume ALL women are crazy about shoes...
It is, semantically, the exact same construction as saying that All asians are lousy drivers.

But the crux is, if someone is assuming YOU are crazy about shoes... all you need to say is, 'actually, I am not'. Letting Loose your very own stereotype-fest of " Oh, You're one of THOSE people who think ALL women are shoe junkies?!" is kind of obliviously stupid...

Get it?

When it comes to stereotyping, there are no people without sin.

And B- Human beings group things, including other people, into set of provisional assumptions.

So, Yeah, If I see a black guy walking down the street dressed like a thug, walking like a thug, and gesturing like a thug, I am going to ASSUME he either IS a thug, or that he wants everyone else to Think he's a thug.
He dressed that way on purpose. As a message saying, watch out, I am dangerous.

Just as I will assume a guy all duded up as Hells Angel either IS one, or wants other folks to think so....

So, yeah... to me, the only NON-STEREOTYPICAL response to anyone assuming something about you that is not true it to simply say the only thing you can say that IS true.
Say what YOU are...
Cause the instant you point the finger at others YOU become the one stereotyping.
You become the one assuming you know something about someone else.

My Lady wears Converse some days, and Manolo's other days...

And Obi... Women seldom pick their shoes to impress us men... they do it for themselves, and to impress other women.

Not the kind of girls I like, and I've never heard a straight guy tell a girl (lady) what shoes she should wear

My boyfriend tried it. Same with how i dress. I made some changes like buying some shirts that dont have holes and skinny leg mens jeans instead of baggy and shoes not being held together by duct tape. However I wont be getting into heels and dresses and shiz for him. lol.
