interesting question actually, most "professional" women would say kissing is more intimate than the act of sex and therefore are willing to partake in selling themselves for sex but with no kissing (mouth to mouth kissing). i'd conclude from that the penetration is not as intimate as the act of kissing.

I have been with a few guys who thought kissing was more intimate than sex, which baffles my mind.

Both can be intimate for me but it's impossible for me to find sex intimate if the kissing is terrible.

I think kissing can be much more intimate more often than sex. Sensual sex is very intimate, but how often does one engage in sensual sex (present company excepted, Darling).

Sex without kissing is animalistic. Not saying that's a bad thing, it's just not intimate.
