the percentage of porn actresses who came from unsupportive families and/or a history of physical/sexual abuse (both of which can severely effect confidence in an individuals abilities and their ability to study, concentrate and complete school) would be roughly how much?

I'm not sure if there has been a comprehensive study on that. Would be interested in reading it, if someone knows

The patriarchy is to blame for this. Women competing against each other, or even defending men against other women. I saw a friend on Facebook defending the actions of a rugby player accused of being involved in the gang rape of a female fan. That's exactly what the patriarchy wants - for women to tear each other down. We are doing their dirty work for them.

I've always had more female friends than males. I feel I can only really trust another woman.
Bullshit. You cant blame men for everything. some women i know hate women from their personal experiences. And some just do cause thats the way they are..jesus i hate that word patriachy..

For the record, Patches, when you're done being angry at men, you'll realize that in the first world, having breasts and a vagina is an economic, social, and legal advantage.

Women who've figured that shit out have male peons running at their beck and call and hardly have to lift a finger at anything. And a legal system that gives the woman the benefit of the doubt in a woman vs man case.

This is your century to shine. Quit looking angrily backwards.

Yes. If you know anything about professional football (soccer), you would know that thousands of professional footballers are discovered yearly who have no other professional experience.

Same with actors. And models too - Djimon Haunsou was discovered on the streets

Ever heard of that 18 year old kid in Michigan who became mayor of his town? 18-year-old mayor taking his new job seriously - msnbc tv - Countdown with Keith Olbermann - msnbc.com

Don't even get me on singers who have immense raw talent that are discovered.

Believe it or not, there are actually a lot of career paths that don't require anything but good looks, luck, and someone to discover you

I suspect that there are some women for whom the cycle of poverty makes prostitution, stripping, and porn the best option that they have to make money. But there are thousands upon thousands of other girls with middle class backgrounds who have had access to decent public education growing up who do porn. When they burn out or their egos get crushed so much, they go (back) to college and get a degree and pursue a professional career.

Which begs the question - why are they doing porn if, through hard work and effort, they can get a career that pays out just as much over a lifetime? The same reason why anyone else goes for the rich quick schemes. It's fast and easy money.

Hence, my initial thought that perhaps Patch's anger is misplaced. Sure a lot of porn is exploitative. But barring the very poor for whom porn provides the best economic option, a big chunk of the women are only there out of ego (or lack of self-respect, or both). They have the option of working hard and making just as much money, but they forgo that option.
You edited in his quote, so I posted it above.

Yes players are discovered, but those players had been praticing for years to hone their craft. Those that are too young go into academies for several years.

Singers with raw talent, may not have been schooled, but they sang in choirs and local groups. Rare is someone who is asked to sing for the first time that has never attempted a song before.

Models have been discovered on the street. Then they are taught how to walk, how to turn, etc. They don't go out on the runway the day after they are signed.

The 18 year old had 12 years of schooling to prepare himself to do a job.

This thread has gone so far off course, sorry to continue the derailing.

I agree her anger is misplaced, but you are looking at this from a western more enlightened point of view. What you note is not the case in many countries, especially muslim ones, and many poorer countries.

Note my first sentence, where I said in the first world, from where she is without a doubt posting.

Feminists in the muslim world don't go on and on about this patriarchy business, as that type of feminism has been derided as white, middle class, and eurocentric by feminists outside of the "center of the world". It's much less angry in an abstract sense (let's fight the patriarchy) and more about self-discovery and self-expression (especially sexual self-expression), as well as aspiring to self-betterment through education. It is confrontational in a visual sense - the overt and in your face display of feminine sexuality - rather than a historical, retributive sense the way feminazis are here in the West. Women are leapfrogging men much faster, especially in Africa, because men are far less educated per capita than they are here.

Feminism of the brand that Patches is promoting is far to male-oriented for me to call it feminism. It's straight up misandry, and it has no intellectual defense.

Also, women generate more economic value than men in any economy, be it first or third world. There are reasons for it that are elaborated by various academic economics surveys - I linked to them in a different post. It's only in the social and legal value that they lose out.

I am looking at it from an economic world. Since the collapse of Communism first, second and third world have become a little blurred. For example, what is Slovakia, it was second world, which doesn't exist anymore. The same with Poland, Russia, etc.

I consider middle eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia to be first world due to their economic standing.

Then what are they?

It's very firmly in the "developing world." At best Middle Income. Definintely not part of the first world - which is US, Canada, the EuroZone, Australia, Japan, S Korea.

Saudi Arabia isn't at that level.

Some would say their GDP is higher than many euro zone countries. Dubai/UAE definitely is.

Having a GDP higher than Greece doesn't make you a first world country. In fact, Greece's weak economy (and Spain's and Portugal's) will probably be the cause of the collapse of the euro over the next few weeks.

China has the 2nd largest GDP in the world, and I'd be hard pressed to find a Chinese person proclaiming China as a shining example of the Developed or First World.

Being a first world country is more than just raw GDP. Indicators such as Human Development Index, and the Gini Index (distribution of wealth), and other measures give a better indication of a "first world" standard of living that would include access to clean water, education/literacy rates (particularly among women), life expectancy, access to healthcare, per capita GDP, and so on.

For some reason, I like girls that never hang out with women. They are kinda tough. It's sexy dominating a girl that is strong. Then, there are the real feminine ones...I like those too...

Anyway, what was the question?

I think it was:

"Do you prefer dominating a tough chick or a feminine one?"

Derailing this thread yet more...

OK, if I take a dictionary definition of pornography (Merriam Webster's seems reasonably comprehensive):-

Main Entry: por·nog·ra·phy
Pronunciation: \-fē\
Function: noun
Etymology: Greek pornographos, adjective, writing about prostitutes, from pornē prostitute + graphein to write; akin to Greek pernanai to sell, poros journey — more at fare, carve
Date: 1858
1 : the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement
2 : material (as books or a photograph) that depicts erotic behavior and is intended to cause sexual excitement
3 : the depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick intense emotional reaction <the pornography of violence>
— por·no·graph·ic \ˌpȯr-nə-ˈgra-fik\ adjective
— por·no·graph·i·cal·ly \-fi-k(ə-)lē\ adverb

To get to the bottom (no pun intended) of the problem Patchos has with porn, we have to understand what Patchos' definition of porn is. I don't believe we've yet had that from her explicitly (no pun intended).

So Patchos, define away...

No, I don't. I think other women who dislike women and believe they are all catty and bitchy, are like this themselves and projecting their own inadequacies onto other women. All of my close friends are female.

I think she's made it abundantly clear that her problem with porn is that men derive pleasure from it.

And on topic, subjectively women do seem to judge other women harshly on a number of issues. They just tend to be different to the issues men judge women on.
