The contraceptive pill

  1. Abolish and forbid its use: the long-term negative effects on our gene pool are disastrous

Very interesting study, showing the genetically disruptive effects of the contraceptive pill.

    Summarized:

-in nature, women are naturally attracted to men with genes that differ from their own - this is logical from an evolutionary point of view, as it guarantees the mingling of genes, necessary for our survival

-however, women who take the pill choose partners with genes similar to theirs

-the consequences are: a higher risk of miscarriages, lower immune systems in offspring, and higher divorce rates, as the woman - when off the pill - subconsciously realises that she married the wrong man

Of course, the pill remains very important for the freedom of modern women. But we should begin to ask ourselves whether we shouldn't use it more carefully.

Hmmmmm. A sampling of one hundred is statistically unsound. The article also doesn't report the actual NUMBERS (what percent of women shifted, and to what degree).

In any case, I would have thought that deodorants and soaps would be more prone to interfere with a woman's ability to properly smell potential mates....

Until men can be relied upon to provide consistent, quality contraception the pill is just about the best thing going.

They're working on a male pill, though. It would have much fewer side-effects. Should be available within a few years.

That could be part of a solution.

Every woman marries the wrong man! The problem isn't the pill; it's that none of them are marrying me!

I just wish them happiness in their hormonally imbalanced, emotionally mismatched relationships

Oh really? My girlfriend got much hornier once she got back on the pill.

I think it can go both ways.

But you would like men to lose their libido, or what? All those big huge hunormous dongs on this forum becoming floppy chunks of meat just hanging there all day long... It would be a shame, wouldn't it?

But then, we have viagra and that works wonders. They should invent a version for women.

Which makes me wonder: have any of you ladies ever tried viagra? Just to see what happens?

Birth control pills are indispensable for many women, and whatever the negative aspects, should always be available.

Interesting...I have read and seen other studies that show that we are all as a species attracted to people with different genes, assuring the survival of the species... it's been proven even through our smell sense when we register a mate's sent, it tends to be pleasing when the individual has a different genetic makeup than ourselves... neat stuff... maybe that's why my girlfriends have always been blonde green eyed European mutts? (Not that I don't love brunets, cause I really really do ie: Keira Knightly types and so forth, etc... but that has simply been the case, and I realize I am still young and pretty 'inexperienced')

I think women's propensity to choose the wrong partners (when they do) is attributed to a lack of self-realization or self-actualization, maturity, logic, and other assorted things that should be learned and determined before they marry and reproduce. (And then some women just never find the right guy out of sheer bad luck).

Of all of the overt and hidden dangers attributed to the pill as it is, I cannot seem to find time to be overly concerned about this one particularly even if it were true.

Hmmm, I wanted my hubby the second I saw him, waaaaaayyyy across a crowded bowling alley, I find it hard to believe I could've smelled him from that distance, let alone over all the other smells!
