This thread has more generalizations than Cliff Notes of Readers Digest. It's futile to try to talk about women. I think the original poster had a valid question because he wanted to know about individual women. Every playboy bunny is unique -- some smart and possibly exploitive, some dumb as a box of bricks and supporting themselves with their only assets. Every day I am forwarded sexist jokes that make men appear to be incompetent idiots, women either all-knowing, long suffering matriarchs who suffer us manly fools or blonde ditzes. Though I think women have been making strides in the workplace because they have demanded that men allow them choices, that me-vs them-attitude also perpetuates the attitudes that stereotype us. It's impossible for me to make generalizations about either men or women, only individuals.

And as for the original question, I have met hundreds of women I admire for their integrity, warmth, dedication to family or profession, and accomplishments; I have also met hundreds who invite contempt. If the yardstick for admiration is achievement or leaving a mark on the word, I nominate Mother Theresa, an example of altruism that exists in household across the world but which generally goes unrecognized.

I think there are too many to include in a list. I don't like the idea of a list, as if they are the exception to the rule.

One of the most fascinating figures, let alone women, in history.

The Weir book is good I read excerpts.

Of course, Katherine Hepburn portrayed Eleanor unforgettably in "The Lion in Winter". Peter O'Toole is good as Henry II, as well.

Your library is good place to look, they might have a VHS or DVD of TLiW, too.

I own the Alison Weir book, "A Life Eleanor of Aquitaine" It is a pretty good read and less dry than many other historic books about her and that era. There are many great women in history I could list, but for once I actually refrained from writing an uber big post. She would be my number one pick because she had 20th Century ideals of women's capabilities, yet she had to contend with misogynistic "men of the cloth", macho warlords, and lived to be 82 years old, when the average life expectancy in the 12th Century for women was between 30 and 40.

Considering we share the same name, you're as stupid as I am! Goddam, is there anybody with half a brain that's called Ed anymore? Baal's sake!!!

My dad arrived in the UK as part of Windrush, considering the amount of racism and the fact he was there for a lot of the black movements which were crushed (and the aftermath afterwards), he managed to do a decent job. Sadly, I'm a minority (within a minority, ha ha), how many two parent families do you see anymore? And how often does the bloke have custody??

Fucked up indeed?I swear, you've encouraged me to change my posting style, NO FUCKING WAY am I acting like you!

From a professional point of view, my respect belongs to all those aviator women who "blazed the trails" or set the footprints for others to follow. Being just a humble follower myself and knowing the resistances, I think I have a vague idea of the efforts their achievements took.

I feel strangely ambivalent towards these playmates. It's a mixture between amusement, pity and incredulity that I feel when I see them, I am wondering what is the point they see in presenting themselves as a form of decoration for an old lecher and men fantasizing about being in his place. However, if they make something from their position, I think they deserve some respect too.
