Had one like those when I was a teenager and lived at home. It was safe because the one end had a bracket so it wasn't just a "tension" fit. Disadvantage being the bracket had to be screwed into the door frame. The bar was removable at least, so it wasn't too obtrusive.

Cool thanks. I'll get the one with grips.

Any experience with these push up things:

Amazon.co.uk: Golds Gym Push Up Bars: Sports & Leisure

They look good, but then are they necessary? I could do it on the floor but...its the floor and I haven't done any for ages. I wouldn't mind buying those but are they any good? Thanks.

Sorry, no experience with the push-up bars (must admit, I don't do 'em ), but I'd think anything would be better than the floor. There's also ones with rotating handles -- always wondered if those work or if they're mostly a gimmick. :dunno:

I have not used them, but I can see two advantages to them: they allow you to raise and lower your body through a longer arc, and they take the strain off your wrists. I myself have not done pushups for years just because the exercise makes my wrists hurt, but I'll bet that these things would take care of that problem. On the other hand, if you have no trouble with doing pushups on the floor, then, of course, you don't need these.

Thanks Cal. I ordered two books in the place of those push up things. Maybe I'll buy those next time but I thought with my weights and the pull up bar I'll be doing very nearly the same job as push ups so getting those would be a bit redundant?

Anyway thanks

I love the push up bars........1. they get your hands off the floor.2.they allow you to keep your hands in a position with less strain on the wrists. 3. theyre padded and make it far more comfortable to do push ups.

I'm not sure how much you know about exercise but, push ups are for the most part an exercise that works your pectorals...you should concentrate on squeezing your pecs when you do them.

Pull-ups are for the most part an exercise that works your lats or back(and a really good one)...when doing them you should concetrate on squeezing your back....feel like your pulling your shoulder blades toward your midline
