I'm curious as to what other people think on the subject, and why they think what they do.
In my previous job, my partner and I worked together for a few months, and I have to say I loved it. It was nice getting to spend more time with him and bringing him into that part of my life, and it actually helped make our relationship stronger.
I remember talking to my coworkers about it, and the pretty much unanimous response was "Wow, I would never be able to work with my [insert relationship equivalent here]" or "Working with my [insert] would drive me crazy."
And I guess...I just don't understand.
If spending time with your loved one would annoy you or drive you crazy...then I don't get the point of being in a relationship with him/her.
I once brought this up to my boss, and she said her reasoning is that her husband is very orderly, and she isn't, so working with him would annoy her. I can get that, everyone is different. I guess it's just that my partner and I mesh so well when we work together that I hadn't really thought of it.
Anyways, while we were there, we had some issues with one of the coworkers who, putting it how it was told to me "Felt uncomfortable by us." Long story short, yes, we were discriminated on because of our relationship. Not necessarily because it was a gay relationship, but just because of the fact that it WAS a relationship. We were told this specifically by the district manager. Basically she told us that we wouldn't be having the discussion if we were just friends. In the end we were forced to work at separate locations.
Needless to say, neither of us work there anymore.
Now, I work at a new place, and my partner just got hired here as well in the same division, so we will get to work together again. I am really really excited; due to the hours of my job, I haven't gotten to see much of him lately, so I'm looking forward to spending some time, even if it's not actually interacting with him, together. This place seems more tolerable of having employees in relationships work together. I talked to my boss about it, and he said they've hired people in relationships before, which is reassuring. My last job had never done it before and were very hesitant because they didn't want any issues to arise (although we weren't the ones who caused issues in the end).
Hopefully all will go well!
So what is your take on the subject?
