Don't forget... in 2006... Champions Italy won all their matches, with one lone draw...

the USA on an own goal.

England might look at that as an omen... drawing vs. USA on a crap goal.

Italy had one of the best goalkeepers in the world. And a center back good enough to win Fifa world player of the year. You lot have a half crocked Wayne Rooney as your main man and the Hand of Clod in goal. Good luck.

4:0 GREATTTTTTTTTTT Game Germany!!!!!!!!!!!
I almost felt sorry for Australia at times. And what a strict Referee, was a little hard to give a red card.

It was a harsh call, but I can understand it - dangerous tackle from behind. Important thing is the 3 points. Ozil looked very good, and I'm glad Klose found his missing groove.

Klose is usual just missing his "groove" in Bundesliga. But during World Cup he always plays awesome. So do Schweinsteiger and Podolski. Podolski didn't score at all or only once or twice this last Football season for his team Cologne, and now in World Cup he is like a whole different player.
Oh god, now everybody's walking around in my small arse village, blowing their Vuvuzelas- they sound like an elephant puking.

Haha, no. But every store in Germany sold those stupid Vuvuzelas. And other crap of course. Even "flags" for your car mirrors (you pull them over the mirror).
I still have all my flags and stuff from the last World Cup, lots of flags and shirts.

That was no dangerous tackle, it would have been a red card with the legs extended. It was so not a red card.

And may i remind Pandorra that Klose leading up to the last two world cups ha great seasons, 01/02 he had his final breakthrough as a player for Kaiserslautern, and 05/06 he became bundesliga scoring champion playing for Werder Bremen. So he has never been in a situation where he was missing his groove in the bundesliga but then was fine at a World Cup.
Him missing his groove got much more to do with plying for Bayern Munich and the way he fits in there, plus he is getting old.

Podolski just is not as good as many think, he got great qualities, but he needs others to create for him and give him the chance to utilize them, he is not quite strong enough to really be a striker with a top club, and he is not independent enough in his style of play to carry a weaker team on his own like it was expected in cologne. Now you can say he had success in cologne before, and been tho he was pretty good, he did not have to carry the team and he was especially good in relation to his age. No he is older but has not so much grown as a player. Still in the right system with the right players next to him he can be a weapon.

Ha. I'm usually not public with my allegiance - I don't wear jerseys or wave flags. Even though I'm not German, I've been a strong supporter of Der Mannschaft for many years because of some very positive experiences I had in that country when I was much younger. As my native country will probably never make a world cup in my lifetime, Germany is my surrogate.

I'm quite confident that Fifa gave refs certain carding directives before each World Cup - in world cups in general, referees have been instructed since the 1998 edition to crack down on tackling from behind. What Cahill had going against him was that his tackle was
A) from behind
B) nowhere close to the ball
C) completely took out the player, and could possibly have injured him

The ref had been fairly harsh from the get go, so while the card may have been harsh, it was completely consistent with his pattern of carding. More importantly, it is justifiable within the framework of the Fifa rules for the three points I mentioned above. And in any case, it was a stupid challenge by Cahill.

Well, I thought it was a bit harsh, but then again this wasn't the only time Cahill had tried to foul a german player. So I thought the Ref had just had enough and finally gave him a card- at first I thought it was gonna be yellow, but was surprised when he pulled out the red card.
